No nog

I can’t tell you how excited I was for this…

IMG_3119

And it left me in so much agony, I couldn’t even blog about it without residual GI pangs shooting back through my body.  Now, a week later, I’m here to say I am through with the seasonal soy bevvies.  Sad.

Anyone tried the coconut milk ones?  Yeah or nay?

I’ve heard great things about So Delicious’ beverage but I can’t find either near me. And now you have me worried to try Earth Balance’s since I haven’t had much processed soy in > 2 months.

I haven’t tried the coconut milk one yet, but was planning to get some this week at the store if they have it. There is also a Rice Nog by Rice Dream that I am interested in trying too. Have you tried that one?

I’ve had the So Delicious coconut milk nog and it pretty much rocked my world.

Man, we don’t get anything like this over here! I know Mama PEa was raving about the coconut milk holiday varieties. Jealous 🙂

  5. denise

I tried the mint chocolate coconut milk and it was amazing! I, however, don’t have terrible GI issues, so I’m not sure how it would mesh with you 😉

  6. Katie

I love the So Delicious nog! I’m a pretty big fan of most coconut milk products though.

I also think the Rice Dream nog is worth trying. I think the coconut one tastes better & is more creamy, but the rice nog isn’t bad.

I’m not even a nog fan and I loved the Coconut version! So creamy!

Ugh, I know that pain – so sorry. I also understand excitement for The Nog, and hence the double whammy; so rude 🙁

I’ve been meaning to comment, to send huge thanks for introducing me to the FODMAP diet … because whilst it’s early days (and I don’t want to tempt fate), I *think* it’s working. Really, truly, finally a solution to this?! Unbelievably awesome! Thank you.

Have you been able to identify the killer ingredient in the Silk Nog? I’ve had to break up with tempeh (OMG rolling on the floor oww), soy and any/all galactans just destroy me. I miss him …

i tried the coconut milk one this weekend and it was okay, but not nearly as good as silk nog! it was really thick and just glugs out of the carton. it will do the trick in a pinch, though. is so worth it to have horrible stomach aches though just this one time of year!

I actually just saw this at Target today…and the chocolate mint version! I was really tempted to buy it but didn’t–now I’m glad I withstood temptation!

I was thrilled tO find a “So nice” which I believe is Rice milk, very delicious and the nutritional stats were great too!

I finally found the So Delicious version at Erewhon the other day but I have yet to see it anywhere else!
I can’t handle soy beverages either. Such a shame. ):

  13. Taya

Whoa- I almost bought that and now I’m glad I didn’t! I’m still in agony from the small handful of air-popped popcorn I snagged yesterday…no fun.

I did try the coconut chocolate peppermint kind, though, and it’s both delicious and IBS safe! Now I’m just trying to ration it so I don’t drink it all at once!

I sure hope we get this Silk Eggnog in the southwest! I love egg nog of just about any kind!

  15. Lauren (Diary of a Vegan Girl)

I got this and it tasted so good. Then two cups later I felt like I was going to throw up. I thought I just drank too much of it but maybe there was something more to it?

So Delicious coconut milk (every flavor) = SO DELICIOUS!!!

  17. TC

slightly off topic but dark chocolate almond milk is fantastic. warm it up = hot chocolate!

no idea. i checked the ingreds and thought they all sounded fine, but im thinking the more processed soy products are just too aggravating for me. im using it to bake now, so we will see if its tolerable in smaller amounts as an ingredient, not solo.

  19. Elise (Post author)

ok, thats it. im going to have to find it.

  20. Elise (Post author)

nope. not worth it. i was out of commission and 100% miserable.

ill have to try out the coconut one…i think i prefer the thickness?

  21. Elise (Post author)

oh man. im so surprised!? tempeh is something ive been ok with!!

im thrilled that youve been finding success and relief with fodmaps. the elimination plan is sure fire way to feel good. so now im just trying to figure out which groups i can get away with in which amounts.

for the most part its the more processed soy things that im having problems with and beans are only bad in huge amounts or if paired with wheat.

i promise a more detailed galactan summary is in the works.

  22. Elise (Post author)

ill check it out, i didnt know there was a rice nog, so thanks for the heads up.

  23. Elise (Post author)

yeah…the more processed soy products are doing a number on me. ill have to keep my eye out for the coconut one. people have been saying the rice one is good too…

  24. Elise (Post author)

thanks for the head up katie. i hadnt heard of it, but ill be on the lookout now!

  25. Elise (Post author)

awesome. im going to have to get my hands on it asap then.

  26. Elise (Post author)

thanks denise. i actually dont like mint, so that one doesnt appeal to me all that much, but if one flavor is good, i bet the rest are just as yummy.

  27. Elise (Post author)

well i think its ok for the people without GI issues.

  28. Elise (Post author)

    thanks for the heads up!

I’ve been looking up traditional recipes and it seems like something that’s really easy to make. I might try an at-home version with almond milk and coconut milk.

  30. alyssa

oh my gosh i totally wasn’t thinking. i don’t even have any gi problems and silk nog will leave me with a gnarly stomach ache. i can’t imagine what it would be like for you!

yeah the thickness is definitely great. i think the spices are a little off the mark though. i hope you like it if you try it & it won’t cause any problems!

I have been dreaming about the coconut milk nog since I heard it existed! I can’t wait to finally try it soon!

  32. Kailey (SnackFace)

I need to lock myself in a room (with a bathroom attached) alone if I drink soy or eat soy (the last time I had tofu I was at DM’s parents’…it was embarrassing). So I’ve managed to track down the coconut milk nog AND mint chocolate beverages. I don’t think I like nog much to start off with, but the coconut version almost tastes like cake batter (I just don’t like how thick it is). And the mint chocolate is A DREAM!!! It’s just remarkable. Also, ZERO tummy troubles. I hope you find them soon!

Just catching up on the blogs. I tried both the coconut chocolate mint and the coconut eggnog. I thought the chocolate mint was too intense, but I put a bit of it with the plain coconut milk that is unsweetened and it was really good. I think I’ll buy another carton of the chocolate mint and use about a 1/4 cup chocolate mint to 3/4 cup plain unsweetened coconut milk. I think this is also good since it makes the chocolate last longer too and since it is twice the cost of the plain I don’t feel I’m wasting too much money. Although the eggnog was just right and I wouldn’t mix it with the plain.

I bought the So Delicious Coconut nog for my boyfriend this past weekend and he LOVED it!! He couldn’t stop drinking it. He said it was the best drink he ever had. He doesn’t eat eggs so he’s never had eggnog before. He downed the carton in just a few hours–luckily I was able to acquire a little bit of it before he finished it off to make french toast with (also eggless). It came out great!!

thank you for the tip! its on the grocery list now for sure.
