Apple, Blog, Coffee that is.

As if my hospital-less days would start any other way…

Hope you guys liked the froth tutorial.  This alphabetical brekkie got me through a tivo-ed Gossip Girl episode (followed by a dance party in my PJs to Lady GaGa) and many many blogs, but eventually I needed a course two.

A [me] & goji bowl of deliciousness filled (my tummy’s) void.  Shortly after I digested, I threw on some clothes, got my hair did, beautified my face, and hit the road to get some errands done.  Runway ready?  FO SHO.

I also had a doctor’s appointment, so I packed this monster with me.

Waiting rooms are pretty much my idea of hell, so I knew I should bring food to avoid making a bad situation worse (after all, everything is worse with an empty stomach).  It’s hard to tell how big it was in the photo, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it broke the 500 calorie barrier and then some.

Whole Foods’ fruit & nut bars seem to be getting bigger and bigger.  Has anyone else noticed this trend?  Since I can’t help but eat an entire bar once it’s opened moderation is not my strong suit, I’m not sure how much longer I’m going to be able to purchase these!!

My appointment was practically next door to WF, so how could I NOT stop in for some hot foods bar action?  I know 3 pm isn’t really a typical meal time, but I’m not a “typical” kind of girl…

Balsamic tofu, brocc, peas, and sesame ginger carrots all on a bed of spinach.  While I enjoy simple salads, I also am I firm believer in the-more-the-merrier policy (unlike Mr. Dan Humphrey), and this baby fit the bill.

I also got this BN squash side dish, which I busted open a mere 30 minutes later (it was an appetite building walk home).  I asked the lady serving it to try to avoid the onions and she did a pretty good job.  I’ll be making my own (onion-less) version soon.

After taking some time to digest, I was ready to get my exercise on.  Holy crap I was shocked at how dark it was!  Winter solstice much?  It was 5 pm, but I felt like I should’ve been getting ready for bed.  Very confusing.  Nobody else seemed to take issue with it though, because NYSC was packed.

30 minutes on the machines when there is a line = gym interrupted

Whole Foods’ whole wheat pita wedges with (the best) roasted red pepper hummus.  Seriously, I hate to sound sacrelig, but this hummus is almost better than Sabra.  It’s super thick (think whipped cream cheese consistency) and has some bangin’ flavor to boot.

I am loved.  The Steaz says so, and who am I to argue with a wonderfully fizzy drink?

If you argued with a fizzy drink, you might be loved, but you’d also be deranged.

Um I eat dinner at 4 is this a problem? Think not. Your ABCs are much tastier then the usual ones.

And isn’t getting your hair done the best feeling ever?

  3. Lyss

i love bubbles. i want that drink.

  4. The Foodie Diaries

Ok fine you sold me with the cream cheese consistency. I’ll pick some up.

Also, WF salads are not meant to be simple. Ever. I’ve put bread pudding in mine before–if that says anything of my WF hot bar salad approach…

  5. MarathonVal

I’m glad I’m not the only one that has an inability to NOT eat an entire bar after opening it…. I’m always in awe of bloggers who patiently eat half a bar, wrap it up, and save half for later. ??!??!?!?!

I’m also craving WF hot bar food right now, thanks a lot….

  6. Katie

I’m always so sad that I don’t live near a WF after I read your posts.

Also – I don’t know HOW I missed your frothy tutorial, so I’m so glad you linked it back. I neeeeed one of those – Christmas list for suuuure.

That hummus piece looks like a cow!

I actually don’t like Sabra! I know everyone just adores it but I really like the Trader Joe’s version or my homeade one instead.
Going to WF tomorrow! Can’t wait!
Hope you have a great weekend!!!

Ok so I *just* bought a freakin espresso machine. It was either a $20 cafe frother or add a zero and multiply. I chose the later. I just posted on my freakin love for my new machine. What do I love most? THE FROTH!

Girl. Had I seen your post on Tues, you may have saved me some money. But no. Cuz I already knew the cafe frother existed (from you) and Ive been pondering hard for the past few months as what to do. And since I just adore coffee I figured what the hell, and bought a whole Machine. I think though that for a 3 week vacay Im taking I need to buy a frother.

I realize this comment is on the wrong post but you’ve been humpin out the content!
And yeah, I never buy WF bars b/c I do believe they’ve gotta clock in at the 600-700 cal range. Which is like a little too much for me as a “snack”. LOL

  10. snackface

Damn! I want to try this not-Sabra now! I have nothing against other brands at all. I was all ova TJ’s hummus in the summer.

Hmm, I don’t abide by normal meal times ever really. I just try to eat what I want when I want, yo. Salad bar at 3pm? So be it!

And yes, you are loved 🙂 xoxoxo

Those Steaz caps are too cute 😀 LOOOOOOOOOOVE the b-squash salad from WF. Scrap that, I love everything that comes out of that place 😀 Never got around to trying the granola bar, but thinking a full-blown addiction to them is the last thing I need right now 😛

  12. prettyladycmu

Never argue with a fizzy drink!

  13. The Voracious Vegan

I’m starving after looking at all of that good food. I’m totally with you on the salads, sometimes the more stuff you pack in there – the better! Scrumptious!

  14. carolinebee

    must.get.frother. 😀
That bar looks tastay…I feel u on the lack of moderation gene..ha I’m so NOT the “eat 1/2 a bar” person- not happening! It gets dark at like, 4:30 in Boston too what is uppp!? Ha o well more time for me to snuggle up on the couch no worries.

  15. julie

WF is on my list of things to get doneeeee. hummus, hot bar, whatever else is on zee list. now if only I can get Deej to fund my hot bar trip….i think it can be done.

a line for the machines!!?? i would be so pissed!

i never want apple season to go out of style. i consume MINIMUM two a day. they’re so cheap now so you know i’m all over that shiz.

  16. ksgoodeats

“after all, everything is worse with an empty stomach” – wise, wise words, E! True dat!!

How funny you had to go into WFs. I do the same thing – “Oh, I need to go by Target. WFs is practically right next door (7 miles away) I might as well just swing by…I’m in the neighborhood.”

  17. maggie

I practice my ABC’s every morning too 🙂

    Maggie

  18. Jenny

I like my bars like I like my men – the bigger, the better.. oh – did I really just go there?

  19. ethel

Jealous that WF is a plenty where you frequent. I must take pictures of the 2 story WF in Pasadena with their chocolate fountain so you can see it’s awesomeness.

p.s. way to rep my filipino brother apl.de.ap…Senor Sale is a fan as well since he’s from our part of the island. Kapampangan yo!

  20. vegfiguresk8er

I’m going shopping at whole foods today! and it just made me think of you 😉
I think I might just have to get some WF hummus!

  21. Missy Maintains

I am the same way with bars. No matter what or how big it is, I just can’t save half! I don’t know how some of these people eat 1/2 a Z-bar!! No way! Oh and the WF bar is okay at any time of day!

  22. shell625

thats my kind of abcs 🙂 and i am soo jealous of your whole foods adventure.. i want to go there fo rlunch asap!! that bar looks really goodd

  27. elise

yeah, no idea. thats definitely not something i could ever do.

  28. elise

whoa whoa WHOA! lets not get carried away now. sabra is mighty fine. but WF is cheaper, so thats an undeniable perk it has going for it…

  29. elise

i know. i hate that they are so massive, because i could never have a bar as a meal, but the caloric value is similar to one, so its quite the catch 22. na’meen?

ps your espresso machine looks awesome.

  30. elise

have i mentioned we need to have a WF date soon? bc we DOOOOO!!!

  31. elise

    yeah ya did! hollerrrrrrr

  32. elise

  33. elise

do it! ive only tried the roasted red pepper, but lemme know if you try another flavor. i dont think they have WF brand plain hummus. at least i havent seen it yet.

  34. ari

is that just whole foods’ brand hummus? i’m dying for a new hummus!

  35. elise

yes! and it’s kinda my #1 now – but shhh, dont tell sabra!

  36. Joe

    Hi Elise

I am going to share a bit of a secret with you. There is an even better hummus out there than WF’s. The best kept secret is out! It is Fountain of Health hummus. This hummus is all natural, and isn’t pasteurized. Meaning, they cook the chickpeas; add the ingredients to keep the Vitamis, Minerals and Texture intact. Please try their Caramelize Onion hummus. It recently won an award in Canada as best new flavored hummus of 2011. I promise you; once you try Fountain of Health hummus; you will not go back to anything else. WF’s hummus is all local stuff, and does not match to this hummus. Shhh, don’t share this with anyone else; although I doubt this secret will be kept. Please come back, and tell us what you thought.
