About Elise
I’m a nurse. An exercise lover. A whole foods connoisseur. A health enthusiast. And I have IBS. No need to cue the sappy violin music yet...
I’ve found that eating a mostly plant-based diet has allowed me to continue to live and love life to the fullest. Although moderation isn’t something I do well, I’m 100% devoted to giving my body pure, wholesome, quality food. Nutritious and delicious, all the time.
Hungry Hungry Hippie is a way for me to share my daily dealings with food, fitness, and everything in between.
First thing I did when I got up was inhale deeply. Even though our bedroom is upstairs, the aromas from the kitchen still make their way up to us overnight. Especially when I make bread right before bedtime. I took a few slices of each for breakfast (and general morning snacking). Excellent. I don’t have photos of all my work food. I brought pizza and other stuff. The dough was soooo good. Fluffy and soft. The sauce had too much garlic. FODMAPs fail. The cheese was melty. Really and truly. It melted. If you see… Read more >

When are you most productive in the day? Are you a morning person? I’m not. I don’t feel like cooking or baking in the morning (which is why I pack my work food the night before). I generally hit my stride in the early afternoon, but every once in a while I’ll have a late night frenzy in the kitch. Last night was one of those nights. We were out of bread. We had black bananas. We had raw home-made yeast dough that needed to meet it’s fate. And I was feeling chef-tastic. Count it… Read more >

1. What’s the breakfast I’ll never get sick of? Oatmeal. Because no two bowls are the same. Ever. I’m in a ’smores phase at the moment thanks to these home-made marshmallows. Some of my latest combos have included peanut butter, marshmallows, cinnamon, raisins, bananas, and carob chips. Many of my co-workers (among others) think oats are too “healthy” to be good and too boring to repeat. To me, that means they aren’t thinking outside the box. 2. Why is My Cousin Vinny so amazing? Grits Think about it. It’s a savory… Read more >

Due to poor weather conditions, we didn’t have much desire to venture away from our hotel in Uruguay. However, we did make it into town one day. We walked there (tricked into thinking it was just a stroll down the beach) and it was drizzling nearly the entire time. But at least we got to see Punta Del Este’s main attraction. Hand in the sand. Our lunch selection was based on two things: (1) did they have seating inside? and (2) did they have coffee? And so we found ourselves at Boca Chica Express…. Read more >

I may as well warn you now…this is going to be one of those posts that will make you drool. A lot. I am having a full blown love affair with joy the baker right now. It’s unstoppable. Don’t even try. I’m enchanted by everything from her recipes to her writing voice to her photos. But I’m especially enamored with her biscuit dough. Home-made cinnamon rolls are one of my bucket list things. I have a million and one recipes for them starred and bookmarked, but I’ve been too intimidated… Read more >
