Separately vegetarian

In the beginning of our relationship (8!!! years ago), Kyle and I ate different meals 99% of the time.  Then he went vegetarian a year ago and we started eating the same things.  It was pretty cool to plan dinners and grocery shop for us both in the same way.  We still eat this way…until this past week… In an effort to clean out the fridge, I’ve been making a ton of not very FODMAP friendly meals for him.  Meanwhile I’ve been on a total salad bender. They all have the same theme.  NUTS!  Lots… Read more >

A Native reward

Kyle and I had a date last weekend at Native Foods.  Again.  I love love love this place and so even though we swore we wouldn’t spend money going out to eat when we had so much food to finish off before moving, we got an invitation from friends (they picked Native Foods!!) and so we took it as a sign couldn’t turn it down.  So here’s the thing.  I’ve used the restaurant’s rewards card every single time we’ve gone and never gotten anything.  We’ve been the Palm Springs location, the Culver City location, the… Read more >

Catching up & solo parenting

Kyle’s been taking day trips away for business, which leaves me and P home alone together.  I realize this is how most new moms function after their spouse’s paternity leave ends (if they even get any!), but for me it’s a whole new learning curve.    Fortunately, my little guy is making leaps and bounds each and every day, so I can utilize the crib in the nursery (and video monitor) and boppy pillow (which neither of us were ready for during his first month of life).  His neck is getting really strong and he’s… Read more >

Trying Thai cooking

I made this on our last night in Nor Cal and just wanted to quickly share the recipe I used. I found a few different recipes and combined them to make my own.  Can you believe I’ve never cooked with coconut milk before?  I love Thai food, especially the really amazing curry coconut milk broth dishes.  I guess that’s probably why I’ve never taken a stab at creating something similar at home.  It seems like mission impossible to get the perfect balance of Thai flavors and spices (especially when it comes to international spice… Read more >

The weekly menu

Sunday Tofu Caesar Salad Totally gonna be a regular from now on.  Easy peasy and deeeelish. Monday Cabbage & Green Chickpea Curry with brown rice Kyle requested this.  He wanted cabbage specifically.  Turns out, cabbage is cheap.  The other ingredients were things we had on hand already – including frozen green chickpeas (365 brand) and carrots. I made a slurry of sauce with the same curry paste I used here (Patak’s brand) with plain greek yogurt (Chobani 2%).   Then I added the veg and waited for the cabbage to wilt. Served it up over… Read more >
