Sweaty Selections

This weekend was a (partial) work weekend.  And it was INSANELY hot.  Fall is nowhere in sight and while I usually love 90 degree temps, my hormones are not on the same page.  At all.  Our AC isn’t doing much of anything and so Kyle and I spent a large part of the weekend bitching about how uncomfortable and sweaty we were.  So productive. Anyway.  I did take pics of parts of the weekend, so I’ll share. Friday morning I had oatmeal with apples and almond butter.  Even though it was hot, it was the… Read more >

Asian Hummus Tempeh Stir-fry

Sometimes when I work night shifts, I forget to make dinner for Kyle.  I usually realize it around 5 pm – right about the time I should be packing up my stuff and heading to the hospital.  This isn’t a tragedy by any means, he’s a great cook, and could certainly make a good meal for himself.  But I like making things easy for him when he gets home from a long work day (and hideous commute).  Plus, it makes me happy (and I know he loves it).    Doesn’t this look gourmet?  I’m sure… Read more >

DC: Founding Farmers

After a really exhausting day, we were all ready for an early dinner.  I’m talking 5 pm early. And so we made our way to Founding Farmers.  This place was recommended to me by a few different people, so I was really looking forward to it.  Unfortunately, I had a less than great interaction with the staff when I called ahead inquiring about the ability to accommodate our party of five (including one person in a wheelchair).  Not only did they tell me they don’t take reservations (which I later found out was false –… Read more >

Non-stop ringing

Each day when I get to work I am assigned a cell phone with my own extension (all the nurses and care partners are).  I have the phone with me for all 12 hours of my shift.  Everyone has my number.  Everyone. Sometimes, it’s a bit much.  Case in point… Radiology: Is patient X able to come down for his PA/LAT now?  Does he need oxygen?  Any isolation? Patient room: Can I get pain meds? Lab: Critical value for patient Y, their PTT is 121 [yikes!] Pharmacy: The medication order for patient Z needs clarification,… Read more >

You stay classy San Diego

This past weekend was faaaaantastic. On Friday I luxxe-ed it up with my bestie, Jess, visiting from NYC.  I adore Caffe Luxxe, and Jess and I have identical tastes in everything (with the most important relevant being food), so obviously I had to share the pretty soy latte art with her. This is hers before she ruined it. And here she is while ruining it.  😉  Love this girl. I got a cafe au lait with soy milk, which I messed up very slightly by adding two packets of raw sugar (still going strong with… Read more >
