US Open day 1

Alarm-less wake up at 7 am?  BOO.  Not sure why, but I was giving the crows a run for their money this morning.  While I got my java on, I rocked out to The Upwelling – and for the record – I am NOT a morning person.  Making sense of anything before 8 am is a struggle, let alone breaking in my vocal cords.  I showered, lathered on sunscreen, and navigated my way to the 7 train.  I noshed on this MASSIVE granola bar from WF on the way.  I love these fruit & nut… Read more >

The big five

Finally a day off of work [insert sigh of relief]!  And a Friday to boot (what an odd phrase).  Today was soopah busy and I was playing catch up all day long.  Naturally, I fueled myself with a large dose of caffeine to get my butt moving. I got 99 problems errands but a meal ‘aint one. After my first round of rain-filled errands my tummy was begging for more fruit.  You ask and you shall receive! Later, I was craving the most bizarre (read highly processed) things for lunch. Bacon and cheese?  Errr…not quite. … Read more >

1 shift, 2 shift, 3 shift, floor!

I’m exhausted with a capital “E” after the last 3 days of work I’ve had.  I shouldn’t complain since I had 4 days off in a row while my sister was visiting, but man was it difficult to go back to such a chaotic scene.  Tuesday’s shift whizzed by so fast I was playing catch up for 12 hours straight (the unit was good busy, not shoot-myself-in-the-head busy), on Wednesday I cried (more on THAT later…), and Thursday I was called to the ICU to cover a patient who had taken a turn for the… Read more >

Salutations to the weekend

Boy oh boy is it exhausting taking NYC by storm in one weekend!  Sunday’s weather was far nicer than Saturday’s (in that there was less rain), but JUST as nasty in terms of humidity… I still started the day with java and fruit.   There may have been a bit of a SoapNet marathon throughout the AM.  Is there a better show to get ready to start the day than 90210?  I think not  🙂 After digesting and beautifying, we set off for Brooklyn. I love the promenade/DUMBO area.  So cute – and such great… Read more >

12 hours of crazy

Propofol, propofol, so much propofol.  And yet, no amount seemed too much.  I’m not exaggerating when I say this: I gave BEYOND lethal doses of sedatives today, and my patient was still so resistant he spent 12 straight hours trying to extubate himself.  Boy was my patience on trial with this guy.  Fentanyl, Propofol, Methadone, the list goes on and on…and these weren’t ordinary does either…these were kill-Michael-Jackson-and-his-entire-kid-entourage-doses.  OK, sorry for the work rant.  I sometimes use this blog to vent, so I ‘pologize for the medical chatter.  Back to what I really love to… Read more >
