Holy April

Oh my gosh April has been non-stop and it’s hardly even started!  This past weekend alone was ridic…Finn turned two, my parents came into town, and a bunch of friends got together for the MS walk…oh and then there was my sister-in-law’s wedding shower.

Yeah.  That’s normal.

I truly love being with family and friends, so this weekend was all about them and not so much about nursing or blogging.

In the words of Jackie O, “I want to live my life, not record it.”

And yet, I did record some of it…just not very much…

Sunday came and I did my usual thang – coffee, cardio, more coffee.

Then we were off to San Clemente.  As we pulled up to the shower, Kyle’s sister (the bride-to-be) pulled up alongside us.

On her bike.

Who rides a motorcycle to her own wedding shower?  This girl.  I love it.

I also love love love love my nieces.

How big has B gotten since this summer!?!

Ferrah was being a camera shy stinker.

The shower was really fun, and as always, it was so great to spend time with Kyle’s family.

Love. Love. Love.

After the presents were unwrapped and the kids were done playing with the guinea pigs (yes, really), it was time to meet back up with the boys.

Kyle’s parents recently moved from Washington to So Cal, so we got to see the new house.

Presh.

It’s hard to look cute and still maintain good form, but this is how you do it.

IMG_5792

Adorable.

While Kyle played catch, I sucked down a little vino.

Then it was din din time.

IMG_5796

Not my plate.

There was BBQ for the meat eaters, but the rest of the food included: salad, baked potatoes, quinoa, fresh pineapple, and roasted veggies.

I couldn’t even fit it all on one plate!

I haven’t roasted veggies in quite a while, so this dish was a nice reminder (to get my oven going again soon).  After clearing my first plate, I had many many spears of juicy pineapple.

And then it was time to hit the road…back to Santa Monica and the real (working) world.  Sad.

As for the winner of the Tropical Traditions coconut peanut butter giveaway…congrats to Matt from The Athletes Plate.  I’m so excited for you!  Send me your address so I can get your yummy nutbutter in the mail.  🙂

For the other bloggers out there, do you ever feel like some days are just not worth documenting?  Blogging takes a lot of time, and although I rarely feel “over it,” it can be exhausting at times.  Luckily, I can usually sense when I’m getting worn out before I get to the breaking point, and I simply step away from the computer.  In the end though, family trumps all.

Glad you had such a fun weekend with family!! 🙂 I’m so with you on not documenting some days! I’m finding that’s essential in order to keep blogging as awesome/fun as it’s been. Family always wins.

“For the other bloggers out there, do you ever feel like some days are just not worth documenting? “-

    YES!!!

Today was one of those days I had nothing pre written that i wanted to use, my life was slam packed with just real life stuff i had to deal with, nothing was exceptional in the food dept so you can see what I posted…my grocery list and my trepidations back to running since I took a really nasty fall. But yeah, totally feel you on that one!

But tomorrow’s posts are prewritten mostly and I am excited about those!

  4. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine

Those kids are freaking adorable. I want a baby…or a niece/nephew to play with!!

There are definitely really boring days, or days where I’m too busy to want to post. I try to pre-write some stuff and always have a list of post ideas going, just so I can post and be done with it.

  5. Emma @ Namaste Everyday

I am living a pretty exciting life right now: studying abroad in New Zealand, so I’m trying to record EVERYTHING I can. But when life gets back to normal, who knows?

ahhh! those shower pics are way too cute, and you have me all excited for my upcoming surprise shower…woot! and i have mentioned to my mom and bridesmaids that i want to play the toilet paper wedding gown game!!!

last year i blogged a lot…and then life happened…i got engaged and have taken a bit of a step back from blogging to enjoy this amazing time in my life…wedding planning. i’d rather put my entire self into planning the best darn party in the world…blogging will always be there…but weddings, they only really happen once…so i am relishing every minute i have…

glad you were able to take a bit of a break!

    have a beautiful day!

  7. Alayna @ Thyme Bombe

Yes! I just wrote about that the other day. Sometimes nearly a week will go by when I have little to say, and then a flood of topics come up all at once!

  8. evamadera

My life definitely seems boring a lot of the time (not this coming summer though…lots happening all at once) and I struggle to come up with topics.
Then when the topics do come…they come all at once. Lots of fun! 😀

Those pictures are so cute too! Thanks for sharing.

  9. Jessica @ Dairy Free Betty

I have many days when my food is not worth documenting… I don’t like to document breakfast either, for some reason… unless it’s something fantastic!!

  10. Gavi @ GaviGetsGoing!

I couldn’t agree with you more, and I’m so grateful to you for putting your opinion out there. Sometimes, I read blogs and I wonder how the blogger possibly enjoyed him/herself during the event because he/she was taking pictures, recording his/her food, etc. I think documenting important events if fun and wonderful, but only if it doesn’t get in the way of enjoying time with family and friends! I’m so glad you had such a fabulous weekend.

I definitely feel like there are some days not worth documenting – I pick and choose what I think will be fun. Your niece is so cute!

  12. Jenny

What a great weekend, love the picture of you all in toilet paper. I have a similar pic in my post haha 😀

  13. Katie

I feel you on needing a blogging break every now and then. The daily “first I ate this, then I ate that” thing gets a little old, both to write and to read. I try to post about more than just my eats. If I don’t have anything interesting to say, I just don’t post.

I’m also still not 100% comfortable telling my IRL peeps about the blog so lots of dinners out with friends go undocumented in photos.

  14. Tracy

I struggle with this too – like sometimes I’m thinking…would people really even want to read this?! So I end up not posting, when I probably should, because I find reading about people’s everyday lives interesting!

    Your nieces are adorable. 🙂

  15. Haley

I totally have days that are like that! And I totally agree. But at least there are multiple things that usually happen in a day – and I can choose from things that have happened before, hehe.

  16. julie

haha way to bring in april with a major BANG. i love weekends when work, computer, etc don’t even come into thought!

  17. annecalista

I feel the same way about blogging, sometimes I don’t feel like I have anything interesting to say, but I’m really trying to blog everyday bc I just love it 🙂

  18. Katie

Awww, sweet little nieces! I have two nieces, two – and I take a million pictures of them every time we’re together.

And YES – so many of my days seem unworthy of documentation – but I do it anyway. Hopefully I’m not boring other people as much as I bore myself.
