Sunday night family dinner

Kyle and I made a resolution this year to sit down to a real dinner together every Sunday night.  It may be hard on the weekends that I work, but we will do our best. Family dinner #1 – roasted broccoli, quinoa and barley, Field Roast smoked tomato loaf. I put 1 cup dry quinoa and 1 cup dry barley in the rice cooker before we headed out to play tennis together. I left it on the “keep warm” setting until it was time for dinner. Then I fluffed it up before serving.   The… Read more >

What I ate (last) Wednesday

Umm, I still have last week’s food on my computer.  Sooo, that’s weird.  It’s been a while since I’ve blogged an entire day’s eats (so many recipes!).  Why not share 24 hours full of food?  [or whatever portion of the day I was awake] I woke up at 4:30 for work because I’m crazy and like shorting myself an hour of sleep to exercise before I’m on my feet for 12 hours straight.  Helloooo sarcasm.   On the way to work (at 6:25 am) I enjoyed a [raw] Cardamom Almond Biscotti by TwinCakes Bakery.  I… Read more >

Dreaming of bread

Last weekend, I woke up in the middle of the night salivating.  Why?    Because of the delicious aroma of this loaf of bread.  Blame it on the carbs, yo! Note to self: never again start a loaf of bread in the breadmaker as you are going to bed.  If you’ve ever made bread, you probably know where I’m coming from because you know how fantastic it smells.  Well apparently my dreaming self got a whiff of the fresh warm dough and wanted in on the action.  I incorporated the smell into a dream and… Read more >

Comments, Questions, Concerns

Let’s start with comments. Turns out, you all have similar experiences with the males in your lives (being horrible at finding things in the fridge).   Lately I’ve turned to notes.  They’ve actually proved to be quite effective! I’ll get recipes out for these meals soon(ish).  Now, for the question portion of the post.   What do you do with a box of fresh oranges? Juuuuuuice! I do have a real question though.  Do you have to peel oranges before you juice them?   I did because I assume the peels and rinds will be… Read more >

Longer than I’ve been alive

Earlier this week my unit threw a huge retirement party for one of my coworkers.  She has been a nurse for 33 years.  33 years! Can you even imagine?!? Naturally, she had a ton of colleagues friends to give her a royal send off.  Staff members who had long since retired came to wish her well (they were joking that they were in Florence Nightingale’s class).  It was such a special thing to see, so I can only guess how much it meant to her. When I was hired, there were rumors of her (then… Read more >
