Persimmon walnut bread

I have shocking news! I took TWO NIGHTS off of chocolate. This is a big deal because my dessert habit started to slip back into old ways…and the portion sizes were growing and growing. We are big persimmon lovers over here, so when I got the itch to do a little baking, I decided to browse through my cookbooks and find something new…which is why/when/how this recipe for persimmon bread jumped out at me. I haven’t done anything new in a while. Banana bread and pumpkin bread are my go to’s and I don’t even… Read more >

Cutting through the chaos

V has to bring in something for the letter of the week and they were on “i” last week and she wanted to bring in “ice cream” so I decided to make that into a craft rather than send her to school with a frozen carton. Having heaps of meat-y leftovers turned out to be the perfect way to compromise on dinner! Why did we have heaps of meat-y leftovers? We went out to South in Sac, which serves comfort food like you’d find in the heart of the South. And since we went with Kyle’s parents, it was being judged by people who know the cuisine (they lived in Georgia for several years and they have roots in Alabama). This lil buddy zonked out on the way there after a day jam packed with action. We celebrated an early Christmas… Read more >

Rice salad for your leftover turkey

In case you happen to have a bunch of leftover turkey this holiday season, I have a nice Mediterranean dish that you may want to try. Aside from the turkey, it’s mainly made from staples you’re likely to have on hand, or at the very least use commonly.  Lemon Dressing 1/2 cup olive oil 1/2 tsp minced garlic (or sub 1 tsp garlic infused evoo) 2 lemons, juiced and zested 1/2 tsp dried oregano salt and pepper Mediterranean Rice with Turkey Ingredients: 2 cups brown rice (cooked with ~4 cups water and a pinch of… Read more >
