Pep(itas) in my step

If you want foam like whoa, you can always click over to my tutorials tab.

Anyways, I spent the AM researching items for our wedding registry.  SO.  MUCH.  FUN.  I mean, I love Kyle and all (obviously), but getting married has mega perks aside from the whole life-of-eternal-bliss thing.  I am going to have one baller kitchen once I am a Mrs.  Of course, I am always looking for more ideas, so if you want to share with me things that you think I should register for/know about – hit me up in the comments section.  In return, I have a gem to share with you!  This site has so much cool stuff for interior decorating, and it’s all reasonably priced…I mean, if I had bar stools in my kitch, I know of at least two girls who would be in my casa, stat.  Classy champagne flutes beer steins in hand obviously.

I digress.

Is there anything better than foodie packages?  No.  And it’s not even close.

Lucky me!  Thanks LARABAR 🙂  I am now two steps closer to tasting every Larabar flavor now.

While watching some tivo-ed Olympic events, I snacked on apple slices with cinnamon, then I broke open the Cherry Pie Larabar.  Wow, it was a tart one!  I liked it, but it doesn’t come close to the PB cookie or Cashew cookie flavors.

Lunch was smorgasbord-y but mostly centered around this tofu “turkey” salad.

IMG_7202IMG_7203

I ate some of it straight out of the container with a spoon, while the rest of it made it’s way onto various vehicles (carrots, cukes, apples, tofu slices, etc.) in order to get it to my mouth with a quickness.

IMG_7204IMG_7062

Yes, I used tofu as a dipping device for MORE tofu.  What can I say, I like weird things.

IMG_7205

Random factoid: I keep forgetting to mention this, but last week at WFs I grabbed some pepitas from the bulk bins and I’ve been adding them to various salads and other meals.

IMG_7245

Tonight, I added them to my quinoa.

IMG_7264

Quinoa with dried cranz & pepitas was a fabulous combo…almost as good as sweet potatoes and BBQ sauce.

IMG_7261IMG_7262

Yes, I did dump BBQ sauce all over the veggies and taters post-photo.  The quinoa can stand alone (although I don’t think BBQ sauce can really harm a dish…food for thought I guess).

Ok, back to the Olympics 🙂  I gotta say, watching these skiers tear down the mountain is putting a little pep in my step.  Maybe I’ll even make it to the gym some time this week?

Review review review your registry! I don’t know what I was thinking with half the stuff we asked for (and we were older and already had had homes). I have artichoke plates we never use. What was I thinking??? (tho I do love artichokes…)

    Have fun!

  2. elleneatsbeats

LOVE pepitas! They add that wonderful salty crunch to any salad. This post reminded me that I need to grab a bag next time I’m at TJ’s!!

  3. sarah @ syrupandhoney

Funny, I just bought pepitas this week too! Been using them in homemade bars and topping smoothies so far…Sounds great in the quinoa though.

  4. samantha

i was watching the mogul skiers last night, man their legs are like RUBBERBANDS. also they’re automatically cooler than i am because they are badass.

  5. Leena

that tofu “turkey” salad looks really good! especially in the apple slices! and quinoa + cranberries is my favorite combo! i also love putting goat cheese on it as well 🙂

I’m a new reader! I’m pretty sure this is the first time I’m commenting. I’ve been following alot of the foodie blogs for over a year now and stumbled upon yours just recently. It is wonderfully put together!

I love that “turkey” salad. They have a similar one at the Whole Foods I go to – though under a different name. I think its the same company however.

Yay for registries!!! I absolutely loved registering for things. We tried to find a good balance between things we had to register for (china, crystal, silver) and things we actually wanted (fun martini glasses, espresso machine).

  8. Angharad

Oh em gee – I was watching the moguls the other night…how do they not have crippled knees? Ridiculous!

  9. Adam

I wish Lara loved me like that! Oh well, they must appreciate the fact that you have some of the best eats combinations ever! Tofu and tofu spread? Nice! I am going to go out on a limb here and say that Lara should come out with a bar combining hummus and apples. I tried this combo the other day, inspired by you of course, and it hit the spot! Just salty enough to bring out the sweetness of the granny smiths!

  10. Quinn

OMG, I LOVED creating a registry. Crate & Barrel has early morning Sunday events where they serve breakfast and you can spend your time scanning items. It’s seriously so much fun.

  11. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine

Ahh I love Healthy Korner products! I’ve yet to try that tofu salad, but their pitas are delicious. Registering is definitely one of the best parts of getting married…I can’t wait 🙂

  12. ellie

Healthy Korner!!!!! Have you tried the Power-fu or Hawaiin one yet? I wish it was available here 🙁

I think creating a registry would be awesome. No idea what I would want…oh, the possibilities. Mostly kitchen stuff, for sure!

I can get my soy milk frothy, but it curdles when I add it to coffee (though not tea?!) What kind of milk do you use?

LOVING the Olympics. I always wished I was a figure skater.

    ha. Enjoy the day

  14. Cole

Yay for a package of Larabars! And watching the skiiers is so amazing.

  15. snackface

Hahaha I LOVE that the bar stool references are for Brookebaby and me. Too funny. And true! But really, we’d be there as long as you and some hummus are there anyway.

I’ve had a can of soup so far for lunch and wanted to figure out what else to have. Now I know (hummus, apples, veg, duh).

Lara hooked a sistah up! Love it.

Hmmm, I don’t even understand how registry works, or else I’d offer words of wisdom. Can you register at Whole Foods?

    Have a faaaab day! xoxoxo

  16. Katie

Watching the Olympics has been motivating me to workout more. Something about their level of fitness just makes me feel like a slacker. LOL

  17. Abby

I did our registry completely alone.. my husband kept saying “oh we dont really need anything”. I actually wanted to register for whole foods gift cards but my mom didnt think that would fly with our “elder” relatives. lol. I went with Macy’s and got a ton of great stuff.. enjoy doing yours.. Im jealous!! 🙂

Your sweet taters look great.. I came to the conclusion today that I eat approx 4-5 (that are the size of my head) a week?! AHH

  18. Tara

Everything looks great! Esp. that turkey!

  19. Mama Pea

I think you should register for a Vita Mix…or two…

  20. Courtney

Are you kidding me?!? I just e-mailed you the Lara bar recipe like 5 minutes ago, and then see you got a FREE box of them delivered to your door?!? Oops–I am sorry! Well, I guess you’ll have the recipe for the future?!

Vita-Mix must go on the registry!!!

    Courtney

  21. Kelly

First time commenting!! But I’ve been reading for awhile now! Once I found someone who loved apples as much as me! Plus you always have such awesome looking/sounding eats!! Quiona with dried crans and pepitas?! Have fun find sweet kitchen gadgets!

  22. BroccoliHut

Tofu with my tofu? Sounds absolutely perfect to me:)

  23. schacalieu

Damn, I want some Larabar love. I’ve never tried them before. My fav thing we got for our wedding is our cuisinart hand blender. Amazing!!! Great for soups and making hummus.

  24. Jenny

am I cray cray for already looking at interior design magz for my future home?! perhaps I should finish college first, eh? Please let me live my life vicariously through you. Thanks

  25. Mary

Where do you buy all those Healthy Korner products? Can I find them at Whole Foods? Where can I stock up on them the next time I go to nyc?

  26. elise

i buy them at a local health foods store (gary null’s whole foods uptown) its on 90th and broadway. they have them at several other local health food places though…i havent seen them at whole foods, but ive been told some of them have them. i think they probably have them at fairway too…there are several locations, but i go to the 74th and broadway store.

  27. Katie

I used to nanny for a little boy who ate NOTHING but cherry pie larabars…they were always smashed in his hair, hands, pockets, and car seat – so whenever I see them, I think of this and it makes me not want to eat them. But I DO like that tart tang they have. 🙂 You are such a lucky duck.

  28. elise

    that is hilarious. and gross.

  29. fightingwithfood

I had the best time picking out items for our registry! There’s nothing quite as fulfilling as running around a store and choosing any and everything you could want and hoping someone will gift it to you 🙂
I don’t suppose BBQ sauce could harm a meal, unless it’s a really yucky sauce – or a really salty one! I don’t know about you, but I have yet to find one that I don’t like.

  30. ksgoodeats

Kitchen Aid! Kitchen Aid! Kitchen Aid!! The 2nd thing I’m looking forward to when I finally get married is to do the whole registry thing. The first? All of the tastings 🙂 Oh, I guess I’d have to fit the whole hubby thing in there somewhere too.

Tofu dipped in tofu? That’s like falafels dipped in hummus, right?!

  31. jenngirl

Good thing you didn’t catch the men’s figure skating, I just saw some, and I’ll be completely honest, those guys have a completely different “pep in their step”

  32. Nutritious Foodie

that dinner looks really really good. Pumpkin seeds are a great source of iron… hmm now I am hungry.

I enjoyed registering for our wedding as well… tons of fun and you get to pick all the things that you really want… I would definately recommend a kitchen scale an a cooking thermometer 🙂

  33. elise

i know!! …and i think raisins are too…i love it when yummy meals are also super nutritious!

  34. elise

hahaha. love it. yes, thats quite the tactful way of saying it 🙂

  35. elise

uhhh, DUH! food processor is #1 on my list. maybe a lifetime supply of sabra, too? tastings will be so fun! they are coming up in march too 🙂

  36. elise

    i cant wait!!!!

  37. lowandbhold

I don’t think I’ve ever tried pepitas! I like the word though, so I hope to like to food, haha.

  38. Holly

    OLYMPICS. LOVE.

with pumpkin seeds, that sounds like quite a perfect combo. ummm i missed lindsey vonn, shaun white and shani winning gold last night. NOT OKAY.

holy larabar. of that i am uber-jealous. LOVE YOU, and i think i need to get married just for a registry. no shame.
