PranaBars taste good

PranaBar hooked it up!!

IMG_7234IMG_7235

I was soooo excited to try these bars.  My work eats were long overdue for a newbie 🙂

IMG_7224

Pairs of everything (salad, apples, bars).

Salad #1 (spinach, asparagus, green beans, carrots, adzuki beans)

IMG_7225

Salad #2 (quinoa, peas, corn, dried cranz)

IMG_7226

Bar#1 (Coconut Acai PranaBar)

IMG_7227

Bar #2 (Mocha-walla Odwalla bar)

Apple #1 (red gala)

Apple #2 (yellow wahsington)

I think it’s fairly obvious which part of my lunch I was most excited to try…

IMG_7228

(Aside from Larabars) I have never found a bar with such great stats.  Seriously, this company has a good thing going on.  PranaBars are organic, unprocessed, soy free, gluten free, dairy free, vegan, and 75% raw.  But beyond the stellar ingredients, they are TASTY buggers.

IMG_7229

They have a chewy consistency without being sticky (as in messy fingers), and they held me over a loooong time.  I had one at 9 am and my stomach was completely satisfied until my lunch break at 1:30 pm.  As much as I hate to throw around the favorite word, this bar really ranks high (top 3, easily).  More proof that it’s worth trying?  As a person who doesn’t exactly love nuts, this bar contains both almond butter and organic almonds, and I was loving every bite of it.  I am soooo thankful to Jessica from Divine Foods for sending me these bars to try…I will definitely be sharing my reviews with all the rest of the flavors soon.

After work I subway surfed my way home (a phrase I may or may not have just invented).  What I mean is, the subway car was so crowded that I didn’t have access to a pole, forcing me to use my (nonexistent) surfing skillz and attempt to stay centered without toppling over as we jerked, twisted, and turned our way uptown.  As a germ-a-phobe, I’m actually quite good at subway surfing (I do it all summer since the warmer weather doesn’t exactly call for gloves).  Anyone else as skeeved out as I am to touch things in public places?

Dinner was tossed together in 5 seconds flat, thanks to my OCD food prepping.

  • romaine
  • green bizzles
  • adzuki beans
  • chickpeas
  • carrots
  • Gardenburger black bean chipotle veg burger

Food Should Taste Good

Along with my salad, I sampled The Works! flavor of FoodShouldTasteGood chips, thanks to a coupon I received a decade and a half ago.  They were good with hummus, but I think there were too many flavors for my taste buds to process.  It was very overwhelming.  Kyle was also only so-so on them, I think this was because they had caraway seeds which too closely resemble dill (which he detests).  I’m excited to get the lime flavor next time though, because those are my favorite kinds of tortilla chips.

I finished the day off with Tazo chai tea and fruit

Since I had to work, it wasn’t a super amazing Valentine’s Day – but then I’m not real big on the holiday to begin with.  I could go on and ON about the insane patients I had, but you wouldn’t even believe it if I tried.  If I had to summarize my day in three words they would be: cocaine, explosive diarrhea, schizophrenic (and those were describing three DIFFERENT patients).  Happy V-Day?  Yes, indeed.

I really like Prana bars. They’re sticky-sweet like Larabars, but they have a little bit more flavor, I think, due to more ingredients and more texture. Love them 🙂

  2. Tara

I must try these. Coconut sounds wonderful.

  3. Molly

haha sounds like you had quite the fun day with those three patients…

glad you like the new bar.. sounds delich!

  4. Serena

Happy Vday. 🙂 I love Prana bars too! You should also try “Boomi” bars (from the same company). They’re not raw or technically vegan (they have honey) but they’re just as good.
Also: I am a complete germaphobe too! I “subway surfed” all last summer and ended up just grabbing onto my dad to steady me, and kept getting weird looks from people as I flailed my arms around the subway xD

  5. Run Sarah

Those bars look awesome, I haven’t seen them in stores here. I prefer chewier bars too but the sticky ones just get too messy to eat on the go!

  6. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga)

prana bars do rock, indeed. ive only had 2 in my life but they were really good. and love the ingredients too.

hope you and the man had a lovely vday 🙂
    xxoo

Quick question… do you steam the carrot you put in your salad? Microwave? Hob? Thanks. 🙂

  8. kathleennnn

Whoa those bars look amazzzing 🙂

  9. Beth

Subway surfing! Love that. Germophobes unite! I am the girl that slathers myself with sanitizer the second AFTER I have scrubbed my hands with soap and water!!
Those chips are “eh” in my opinion too. I have had most of the flavors–the only one I haven’t is the Works because of the caraway, so I can relate to Kyle’s feeling about that. Although, I love dill, I detest rye 🙁

    Happy (late) Valentine’s Day!

  10. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine

Those bars sound delish, I’ll have to keep an eye out for them! I hate touching stuff on the subway. The worst is in the summer when you’re wearing shorts and sitting on the gross seats…ew. Happy belated Valentine’s Day!

  11. Cole

Seeing your photos of hummus always has me craving hummus. And Prana bars look yum, I’m going to have to give those a try.

  12. julie

you mean the explosive diarrhea patient didn’t bring you roses?

i checked out the prana website because i’m a google creep haha and i seriously want you to try the apple pie one (assuming its in that ginormous box)

    k thanks!

  13. KathyR

I know this is probably sacrilege, but I really don’t like the texture/consistency of the Larabars. I know this will get me kicked out of the healthy blogger club right after I joined. 😉

I have hand sanitizer in my purse. I am especially skeeved by public restrooms. They are the LAST place I want to get my hands wet and touch anything else. Gack.

  14. Gabriela (froyolover)

Seems like you´ve had a simple, yet amazing V-day!
I mean, those bars looked amazing!
Not just your bars, but all your eats. Hehe.
    Have a great Monday!
    Brazilian XOXO´s,
    Gabriela

  15. Katie

Thanks for the good review! I’m excited to try those bars!

  16. Courtney

SO jealous of all the bloggers who get free food in the mail! I need to start blogging just for the freebies, lol 🙂 And I am super impressed that you liked the bars–they look full of nuts!

Awww…I am sorry about work–that does NOT sound like fun. And tehehehehe–that is 4 words, not three, but after your day of dealing with those 4 words? I say that is okay.

Prana Bars? I have never even heard of them… Once again, thanks Canada! Sometimes i feel like i was left on a deserted island with no access to sweet vegetarian finds or cool restaurants, just tons of meat and processed foods… I guess i will have to look for these the next time i make my “journey” to Whole Foods. Are you serious about the food prepping relation to OCD? Because this would make so much sense in my life. I am definitely one of the biggest supporters of the ne touche pas method on subways, in public bathrooms, most any door, buses, airplanes, and as of late whenever i handle cash (which is not a lot, other than at work) haha… I don’t think you can take Microbio or Med-Microbio without coming out of both classes with some form of new obsessive behavior. I blame my extensive germ/bacteria knowledge for my odd habits, which i am sure you do as well! P.S. Those burgers are pretty good! What are your thoughts on the ingredient list on those? I find it’s rather extensive but mostly natural which is cool…

  18. blueeyedheart

Would it have been any better to have the cocaine, explosive diarrhea and schizophrenia in the SAME patient?! =O

My aversion to the germs I can practically SEE crawling up subway surfaces has actually done a great service in improving my balance. Especially in the summer, when I am not wearing gloves, I refuse to touch anything.

  19. Shelley (findinghappinessandhealth)

i like the fstg chips but know what u mean with all the flavors. i really like prana bars! moist and delicious 🙂
ahh work sounds…interesting… idk how i’d deal with that!

  21. samantha

i just bought the coconut cream pie larabar and am excited to try it…

you are so good at meal prepping! this girl has got to get better.

  22. suzannern

    Pranamazing

  23. suzannern

and loved the three adjective for your three patients of the day… haaa

  24. Sarah B

Hah, subway surfing is the best. I’m terrible at it though, and always end up awkwardly twisting around people to grab hold of the pole.

Those bars look goooooood- I wish I could try em but I don’t think they’re available in Canada!

  25. Ada

Explosive diarrhea? Somebody call the C.diff police!

  26. Angharad

Your three ways to describe v-day were incomparable. You also said bugger the way I would say bugger. You win at life.

Now I need to look into these Prana bars…

  27. ksgoodeats

I almost had to stop reading your review because I now I WANT that bar. You just sold me! I’m not a germaphobe but I get skeeved out sometimes. Friday night in the hotel I was channel surfing and eating a z-bar. Then it dawned on me how grody the remote probably was…ick.

Ew to your day – you should get paid more for dealing with that!

  28. simplyshaka

Wow—what a description for the day in three words!! I will have to check our Pranabars-never heard of it before–thanks!

  29. Lara (Thinspired)

I love your lunch salads–how they are not conventional “salads” with lettuce and dressing. I think I am kind of OVER those kinds of salads right now after having tons of them recently. It’s nice to get new ideas for getting my veggies in without having to eat something I’m not in the mood for!

I am also a germ-phobe. The second I walk through the door after getting home, I wash my hands. And I shout to Matt, “Wash hands!” Can’t stand the thought of touching a grocery cart, gas pump, etc., and then coming home and touching my personal household stuff! Yipes!

  30. elise

agreed. sooooo good. whats your fave flavor?

  31. elise

fun may be not the best word choice, but they provide with some fabulous stories at least – haha 🙂

  32. elise

i have a few boomi bars to try still…so good. what are you favorite flavors?

im so glad to have fellow germaphobes.

  33. elise

dang it canada. get on it already!!

  34. elise

yes. steamed. sometimes in the micro, but usually over the stove. i do bulk steaming on my days off and tupperware them for easy salad making on work nights.

  35. elise

holler!!!! seriously. there are some nasties out there, and lord only knows whats on their hands…that then touch shared areas. blech.

have you tried any other flavors of the FSTG chips that you liked more? any recs?

  36. elise

shocking i know…she was actually in the 300 lb weigh class too, so moving to the bathroom wasnt even an option. i went through lots of linens. anyways, ill get on the apple pie flavor soon 🙂

  37. elise

thank you my fave brazilian reader 🙂 hope you had a good 14th too 🙂

  38. elise

uhhhh, YES! you should. and thanks a mill for the clarification on the word count – punk! 😉 you know i love ya.

ps im happy about the larabar recipe, so dont worry about being busy and not getting it to me. silly girl. i appreciate EVERYthing you have the time to send me. even if its a week after you mentioned it. better than never, right? right.

  39. elise

funny you say that EXACTLY as i am watching a canada commercial with all these canadian celebs plugging their homeland.

these bars are so great, try to get your hands on some if you can.

those burgers are so so…i dont mind the ingreds since like you said, its seems like mostly good stuff.

  40. elise

good point. definitely not. that would be an AWFUL patient!

  41. elise

thats one of the best laras! mmmm….its like a coconut covered date. delish!

  42. elise

it was c diff for SURE. i sent a sample, but i didnt even have to … i can smell that bad boy from a mile away.

  43. elise

yeah, i swear i felt like a psych nurse…where did all the cardiac patients go???

  44. elise

i have fallen over a bit before too…and clawed up the arms of innocent bystanders in my effort to avoid the pole.

  45. elise

ps canada needs to get their sh!t together, pranabars are legit!

  46. elise

haha…best comment. im so glad the word “buggers” didnt offend other readers 🙂

  47. elise

ditto on the boring salads. often times i just throw everything into a tupperware and hope for the best. its rare that a combo of veggies and beans and dried fruit doesnt taste good though…
ew, i agree, i dont want kyle to TOUCH me when i get home from work. i feel like a germy mess. often my patients are on contact precaution for some bacteria or another too, so im like seriously disgusting…
btw, im coming home (Lafayette) march 18th weekend. maybe we can arrange a double date??
