Work and Peacefood

This is one of the more bare work lunches I have packed…

Don’t worry, the apple-less state of this photo was remedied once I took my lunch break.  Thank you Gracefully for providing such an abundance of eye candy organic fruit.

Greens entered my bod in the form of spinach, brocc, and peas.  The rest of the salad ingreds included adzuki beans, chickpeas, corn and dried cranz.

Since Kyle has been a slave to the office, and I have hardly seen him over the last 72 hours, we decided a nice date night at Peacefood was in order.

We both ordered from the daily specials menu (because we are special after all).

Kyle’s got a coconut curry dish…I think he wasn’t as wowed by it as he was hoping.  Not to be a food snob, but I think the plating could have been better, too…

I got a warm salad.  It sounds weird, but the description was roasted seasonal veggies and tofu over a bed of mixed greens.  Since it’s winter and all, I figured a combo of ‘fu and veggies in a warm dish would be perfect.

My meal was superb.  It looks like a pile of green crap, but it was pretty much exactly what I expected (slash hoped for).

IMG_7176

You can hardly tell, but there were lots of different veggies mixed in with the chunks of roasted tofu…and since they were freshly roasted, the lettuce was still crispy (not wilted) but warm at the same time.  Pretty unique.

IMG_7175

THIS is the real reason Kyle wanted to go to Peacefood, though.  He adores their chickpea fries.  We got an order to share and he was nice enough to let me have 50% of them (which I was slightly shocked by, but happily accepted).

Just like last time I had them, I burned the roof of my mouth.  My Dad is probably reading this shaking his head…even the monkeys learn, right?  When it comes to food, patience isn’t my strong suit.

I was full when we left, but I still got a treat for the road (aka my dessert for back home).

What’s in the bag you ask??

This glorious beast.

Vegan chocolate chip blondie…with hot chocolate on the side!

If I somehow make my way to heaven, I hope this is what they serve for every meal.  Yes, in my version of heaven there is a vegan catering company that will provide me with all my meals.

I’ve noticed that bars make up a significant part of your diet. Do you have a favorite? And, are there any you stay away from?

That meal looks awesome, esp those chickpea fries!!

  13. leangreendeane

I actually heard them mention something about a vegan blondie machine in heaven at church the other day… Or maybe i was dreaming? Would that mean meat-eaters don’t go to heaven? I think you should coin a new term (vegan-tology), and maybe pitch it to a few celebs and let them run with it… all vegans go to heaven, even if your 99% like us 🙂

  14. Jessie (Vegan-minded)

Peacefood looks delicious! I can only imagine how good chickpea fries must taste. 🙂

  15. Cole

  25. elise

you definitely should go…maybe another blogger meet up?

  26. elise

any Vancouver recs you have for me?? im heading there on fri. are you going to any events?

  27. elise

    hmmm…ok, my fave bars are:

Larabars (PB cookie, cashew cookie, PB&J)
    PranaBars (all flavors)
Clif bars (blueberry crisp, apricot, all the holiday flavors)
Odwalla bars (all, but especially superfood and super protein)
Luna bars (iced oatmeal, and the apple sunrise)

there are several others that i occasionally eat, but the above are my faves. i try to only eat bars on days i work because they are easy and then on days off i eat mostly completely NON processed foods. its a balance, and since i dont enjoy too much processed food (read: my stomach doesnt like too muhc processed food) i really try to eat the most pure bars with the best ingreds. the fewer things in em the better…thats why larabars and pranabars are at the top of the list. they are SO healthy and taste amazing too!

    hope that helps!

  28. elise

oh man, they are so good. i should learn how to make my own! hmmmm…thanks for the idea 🙂

  31. elise

did you have a vegan wedding cake?

  32. elise

i love vegan-tology!! omg, you are brilliant!

ps. if i had been in church for that vegan blondie machine comment i would have shouted “can i get an A-MEN!”

  33. elise

    it depends on the salad:
when i make salads at home i usually use minimal dressing. depending on whats in the salad i will combine something like balsamic vinegar or apple cider vinegar and honey mustard. other times i use BBQ sauce or a tahini and vinegar mix. sometimes i even use a nondairy milk and maybe a mushy ingredient like avocado to coat everything.

if they are for work salads, i spritz them with bragg’s and non much else because i dont want it to get soggy overnight/through the next day’s morning. i dont mind my salads plain really, so either way, it depends on the ingredients.

  34. elise

peacefood is so great, and even better? the price is right!!!

  35. elise

i have no clue what was in them, as far as i could tell it was mostly mashed up chickpeas…fried up in coconut oil (i think).
