Queasy

Ok.  Honestly?  I’m feeling a bit sick…great way to start off married life, huh?

Blog 432

It’s not surprising that an illness should strike now, after the intense go-go-go nature of the past month I guess I had it coming.  My body must’ve caught wind that my defenses are (finally) down.  Too much travel, too little sleep, and on top of it all, my eating habits have been ridiculously (and abnormally) erratic over the past week (see above breakfast of crackers & hummus).  I guess my immune system deserves a day off…I just hope a day doesn’t turn into a week.  I have a to-do list the size of China.

Yesterday was not how I want to remember my first days of wife-dom (it’s not a real word, but just roll with it).

My body was (and still is) out of whack.  I slept ‘til noon.  I had the above crappola in lieu of coffee.  Along with the below PB & date platter.

And I went back to sleep right after.

Sleeping on a full stomach is my least favorite thing.  Ever.  So that should tell you something about how crappy I felt.

On top of it all, Kyle was off being super productive at school, leaving me to get our lives re-organized and I didn’t even accomplish a single thing on my to-do list.  Wife fail.  Don’t worry, I promise I’ll make it up to him…  It just won’t be with a clean home or hot from the oven dinner.  ;)

Whole Foods’ prepared meals aren’t the worst alternative though.

Putting grapes in my salad is a new fave.  Especially with the Gardein curry “chik’n” salad.  Other assorted (read random) goodies include edamame and BBQ tofu.  Totally bizarre and totally delicious.

After dinner I had an apple and a big bowl of carob chips with roasted almonds.  Salty and sweet.  Too bad my body wasn’t feeling it.  I started to get headache-y and nauseous pretty soon after dinner.  Water didn’t help.  Bed didn’t help.  So after 45 minutes of wishing my sickness away (I may be a nurse, but I’m not a big fan of meds), I sucked it up and turned to Excedrin Migraine.  It did help a bit with the headache…but the caffeine kept me wide awake into the wee hours of the morning.  Not so good in terms of getting my jet-lagged body back on track.

Have you ever found that your body waits until after big events to break down?  I almost always got sick right after finals in college, or right after a big deadline.  It’s like the immune system can fend off disease during high stress times, but only for so long…and once you reach the top of the mountain, your body knows it can afford to coast on the way down.  I remember reading about this idea in Brendan Brazier’s book, and now I’m fairly certain it’s true.  Wedding season has come and gone and my body’s defenses are ready to veg.  I have no doubt I’ll bounce back soon though.  There’s nothing a kale-packed green monster can’t fix, right?

Migraines are the absolute worst. Due to the lovely hurricane coming up the east coast, I had one all weekend. Keeping eatting those nutrients and you’ll be better in no time 🙂

    Feel better soon!

I have a pretty good immune system and don’t really physically react to stress. I don’t get sick often, but when I do, I get SICK. SO much so that a trip to the doctors, antibiotics, the whole nine yards is needed and its dreadful. I get over it pretty quickly. I hope you do as well! Being sick is no way to ring in the marriage!

By the way- dates and peanut butter, more people should know about this! It’s one of my favourites!

i hope you get better. i heard the other day that dr. oz recommends hummus, sleep & pb filled dates as a natural cure 😉

Oh no–I am so sorry you are sick! But, at least your immune system waited til *after* the wedding and honeymoon, right?!?! How awful would it have been to be feeling this way on your honeymoon? Ugh. You poor thing…I am sorry 🙁

Welcome back, by the way 🙂 I missed you! I hope you had a fabulous honeymoon and that your wedding was all you hoped for and more! Cheesy, I know, but you deserve it!

“Have you ever found that your body waits until after big events to break down? “–YES!!

And yes, it is true. Your body is running on the symathetic nervous system for big stressful events and the minute those pass, the symp shuts down, and your immune system lets up, and BAM you get sick. This would be the story of my life. Espi in college. NEVER failed i would stay healthy all thru school, thru finals, and then over xmas or spring break, sick as a dog.

Windows live writer on your Mac. Are you running LMVware (sp?) or Parallels? I have heard that’s the dealio. I have a Mac and am wondering if live writer is truly the end all/be all & if it’s worth slowing my Mac down and buying/downloading all kinds of software just to get Livewriter going? any info or stories appreciated!

    And of course, FEEL BETTER!!!!!!!!!

    🙂

Aww hope you feel better soon… nothing a few tubs of hummus can’t cure, I’m sure 😉

Ahh you poor thing, feel better! Your body is definitely just asking for some r&r–so take advantage of the down time, get some sleep and be productive once you’re feeling up to it!

Congrats again on the weddddding! You and Kyle are just ADORABLE together!

And yum–gotta comment on it, love me some medjools + pb/ab! Had some earlier today 🙂

hey girl. so im pretty much a live writer lover, so if youre asking for my opinion, its worth it. i got virtualbox and then bought the windows XP disk…its similar to parallels…not too complicated because if i can figure it out, anyone can. i love my mac but i still prefer live writer, so even though i now i am running both through my computer i think it was worth it.

    hope that helps!

My body reacts the same way to high-stress times. I spent the beginning of every winter break in college being sick. I hope you are feeling better soon!

Ooof. Sorry to hear about the sickness. I’ve heard many a friend complain of having a sickness breakdown after a big event/finals/work deadline. Shows how good our bodies are at holding onto health through stress though, right?!

    Hope you feel better soon!

Sorry to hear you’re unwell! I know the feeling! My body always breaks down at the beginning of holidays and after stressful and busy periods. It is rubbish. Oh, and jet lag gives me headaches and nausea. You have my complete sympathy, it sucks! And has been an all too recent experience for me too. I think our bodies are telling us something… Not sure what though! Get well soon. Sorry I don’t have any pearls of wisdom xxx

Totally understand the sentiment. Massive amounts of excitement and adrenaline keep you going, and afterward it’s just a massive CRASH. On the bright side, at least it didn’t all happen BEFORE the wedding, right?
