Allergy info about Trader Joe’s chicken sausage

It took a LOT of emailing for me to get this info, so here it all is in one place for me (and others) to refer back to. The reason I asked about their chicken sausages is because they are also gluten free (as labeled) so that rules out one allergen from the get go.  The contact form for questions requires each individual item / SKU to be submitted on it’s own, so I couldn’t just ask about all the chicken sausages…I’m sure they enjoyed my repetitive submissions with virtually the same wording over and over… Read more >

Allergy friendly companies

I haven’t shared as much about my little guy’s allergies lately but that’s because (a) not much has changed and (b) I’m trying to stay semi-private while still offering any help I can to other moms in the same situation. I still email companies on a regular basis, though, inquiring about their products and the facilities where they are processed to try to increase my list of store bought items that are safe, so here’s the latest: Dear Elise: Thank you for taking the time to contact Annie’s Naturals. You asked in your email if the Ketchup is… Read more >

Nature’s Path allergy response

I recently contacted Nature’s Path, a brand I love and support, about their products and labeling. You see, they have some awesome looking gluten free products (cereals mainly) that I’d love to buy for P as an infrequent “treat” option.  It’s hard to make my own everything, so I’m being honest and acknowledging the fact that it may not be the “hippie”-est of things, but it’s realistic.  Thus far I haven’t really given patty-cakes much in the way of prepared food because of the risks of cross contamination, but I fear his meals are getting boring… Read more >

Molasses as a sweetener

If you want to make 1 1/2 loaves of banana bread (one large, one small) here’s the recipe.  Alternatively, you could make one loaf and some muffins.  Not sure how the cooking time would vary for those but I’m just throwing it out there because I made this recipe and it had too much for one loaf but was still perfect and definitely worth sharing. Rather than applesauce as a sweetener, I used molasses.  It’s subtly sweet but the body treats it way different than sugar.  Almost everything I bake I make suitable for pacman and while… Read more >

Chickpea smuggler

Here are some updates on how it’s going feeding a toddler with allergies (since I know several mamas like these posts) and he seems to be thriving. I snuck beans into my child’s diet and they weren’t even baked or blended into something making them unrecognizable.  Nope.  I simply changed the texture by roasting them and voila!   The kid eats beans. For now. 😛  (there are a few ways to roast them but I did 450 degrees F x 25 minutes just tossed in a little olive oil) Like I mentioned in a previous… Read more >
