Munchkin Mash-ups

Mr. P is all over the place with his appetite and cravings.  I think that’s pretty typical for little ones.  Some days I feel bad that he’s not getting very diverse meals, but he doesn’t seem to mind, so oh well. Similar to the problem that Lara mentioned, Patty-cakes doesn’t seem to like anything “assembled”.  I make lots of allergy friendly meals for the 2 (3) of us, but he doesn’t want them in they’re completed form.  Instead, he will often eat the ingredients separately (mise en place style as I prep).  I think he dislikes the… Read more >

Quick bread for little fingers

I made this bread for me and P thinking he’d do what he always does – try it, like a few bites, but ultimately be over it by the 4th bite forevermore.  NOPE!  Little man took this loaf down in two days with not much help from mama (which was a difficult sacrifice on my end because it was gooooood). Coconut Flour Banana Bread [vegetarian, gluten free, grain free, nut free, soy free, dairy free] Ingredients: 3 large super ripe bananas, mashed 3 eggs 1/4 cup applesauce 2 tbsp coconut oil 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp… Read more >

The Thomas

My mom and I took my great Aunt out to lunch last week.  I googled a few places in Napa (near where she lives) and then passed the decision off to my mom, who chose The Thomas.  Aside from the weird name, the place was great!  Awesome staff, awesome ambiance (we ate upstairs and it was a gorgeous day) and awesome food. I got the lentil salad.  My mom got the fried chicken sandwich. We both loved our food (and totally cleaned our plates) but my mom ended up getting sick from hers.  🙁 My drink… Read more >

All about hemp milk

Obviously I didn’t invent hemp milk, so this post is not going to be super detailed on the tutorial end, however, I did do lots of research about hemp seed sources that I think could be helpful to have all in one place for others.  Since many companies that package/manufacture/sell hemp seeds also package/manufacture/sell nuts (and other allergens) I wanted to contact as many as I could to find out the details on their standards of co-packing.  There were a few who didn’t respond to my email, which I indicate below, but the rest were very… Read more >

Flying with allergies [the post-post]

Sorry for the delay on this one.  I was going to ditch the post altogether, but people did ask questions so I wanted to try to offer something as a way of a response.  [Reminder: here’s the first installment where I waxed poetic about how little I knew and how ill prepared I felt] Now that the trip is over and we survived without the use of the epi pen, I’ll try to share more in the hopes that some of it may help someone. Things we did prior to traveling: 1. Tried as many… Read more >
