Un-lucky Irish

Happy St. Patty’s Day! I don’t have any morning pics because my computer crashed AGAIN, so now it’s in the hands of the geek squad…more on that later though.

Don’t worry, you didn’t miss much. I had the usual coffee and a piece of toast with Earth Balance (approx. a mountain of it). I felt a little guilty chugging coffee knowing I was heading to the dentist’s office in an hour, but I got over it pretty quick (once I realized exactly how scary the zombie-like alternative was).

I’m proud to report my dentist’s appt went very well; and despite having over 3 years lapsed since my last visit (back in Ca!) I was cavity free. I guess that whole flossing thing is all it’s hyped up to be. I’m sure you guys are thrilled with my dental stories…but hey, everyone likes a happy ending with a nice moral, right? You can tell it to your kids.

After my appointment I headed to 5th Ave to watch the St. Patrick’s Day parade. CRAZY!

I know you can’t really tell from the pics, but there were insane crowds. I was engulfed in a sea of green, drunken Irish folk. It was kinda fun though. That’s the NYPD marching in the pic above.

I strolled through Central Park on my way back uptown, taking pics on the way.
But you know me…I HAD to stop into Whole Foods at Columbus Circle…
and admire the fat lady statue.
From the front…AND the back…

Don’t worry, I’m well aware I have the maturity of a kindergartner.

I struggled with all my might to practice restraint, but sometimes I forget how economics work. I’m a bio major, so it’s not my fault…I did ok. I got a free tub of hummus (Tribe coupon!), falafel from the hot foods bar, and seitan (it’s impossible to find ANYwhere).

By the time I got home, I was starving and since the minty fresh clean was nearly gone from my teeth (sad), I decided I could/should eat lunch. I wanted to milk that teeth cleaning for all it’s worth, though!!
Pam, from Tribe, gave me a list of grocers that sold their hummus, and since I finally was able to track it down at WF, I was excited to give it a try. I opted for the Sweet Roasted Red Pepper flavor.
I had 2 falafels (halved) and an apple to dip in it…
Tribe roasted red pepper stats: (per serving) kcals 40, fat 2.5g, Na 125mg, carbs 3g, fiber 1g, sugar 0g, protein 1g
Although it doesn’t have the same I-must-finish-this-entire-tub effect that Sabra has on me, it was good. I think Sabra has more fat (hence my passionate to-die-for attitude). I think the reason was that this tasted healthy, similar to when I made my own hummus. I do like that there are minimal ingreds (chickpeas, roasted red peppers, lemon juice, canola oil, sesame tahini, sea salt, citric acid, spices, natural garlic flavor) and even better were the visible chunks of red peppers. It would be better not as the featured ingred, but as a compliment ingred, which is a stark contrast to the (extremely lady-like) way I tend to eat Sabra (by the spoonful with nothing else). The red pepper flavor wasn’t too powerful, it was nice and sweet in a subtle way…def better in a more background role (ie as a spread in something with many other ingreds).
I had another couple falafel balls (with more red pepper hummus naturally).
I was still hungry, so I decided to test out my theory of using Tribe as a spread on my sandwich, and made a mini sammie with the heel piece of Alvarado street bread.
Also in the sandwich was shredded carrot and smart deli “turkey.”
Way better. In summary, Tribe hummus is better for spreading or as a background flavor in a wrap/sandwich, whereas Sabra is still my #1 for pure dipping goodness.
Will I buy it again? Hmmm…I’m still going to try all the rest of the Tribe flavors (garlic, 40 spices, and classic)….if I can find them, but I’m not sure if I’ll continue to buy them once the coupons are out.
I heart coupons.
I had a little bit of sugar later on, in the form of frozen grapes.
Then it was gym time. Blah. Not the best sesh. It was gorgeous outside, and I should have taken advantage. Maybe tomorrow…
After I showered I raced down Broadway with my sick computer in toe, all the while praying that the Geek squad could salvage the music I JUST spent 2 full days re-uploading. Ugh. Now, you may be thinking to yourself “Elise, I thought you JUST fixed your computer after last week’s virus induced computer crash?” To which I would reply, apparently restoring your computer to factory settings is a gift that keeps on giving. Let’s recap, LAST WEEK = iTunes music gone, pictures gone, documents gone, need I go on…cut to the WEEKEND which was literally filled with hours on end uploading all my parents’ cds. And somehow I’m back to square one, AGAIN.
Technology is public enemy #1 right now as far as I’m concerned.
Talk about un-luck of the Irish. As if pale skin and freckles weren’t punishment enough
The grand total was $325 (which even included my $40 flirty smile discount)…my AM dental visit was really proving it’s worth. I would have gone the Mardi Gras route, but trust me, the pearly whites are way more effective than flashing (in my case). I stopped at the bucks on the way home for some comfort caffeine.
In honor of St. Patty’s Day I had a Irish colored dinner (well, the orange and green at least).
I had the rest of the falafels, some steamed brocc and edamame, all on a bed of spin and shredded carrots with red roasted hummus and greek yogurt on the side.
Food porn.

ZOOM zoom.

Dessert pics are MIA. Kyle enjoyed Vita goodies, I had tons of figs and carob raisins, TONS I tell you…

Bed time. I’m pooped.

Isn’t it funny how Sabra is the standard to which all hummus will forever be compared?

Unsweetened carob is crack, I tell ya. And I think if I ever have that authentic of a falafel I will die of complete joy.

I love your naked lady statute pics. She makes me happy.
