Easy Peasy Baba Ganoush

This meal was entirely centered around the smallest thing on the dish.  The babaganoush! If you want to make a real legit baba ganoush, David Lebovitz is your man.  I had read his recipe long ago and thought I could go off memory.  I totally botched it (forgetting almost every ingredient aside from the eggplant) but the main thing I took away from his recipe (and did implement in my version) was charring the skin first. We have an electric coil stove which is not ideal, but I made it work.  Kyle came home… Read more >

BA noodles

Bon Appétit is probably my favorite magazine.  I say that without a subscription though.  I love their website.  I steal my sister’s magazines.  It counts.  Clean Eating and Vegetarian Times could be in the running for the top spot too.  I really just like reading about pretty food.    The June copy of BA has SO many things I’ve bookmarked to make it’s ridiculous.  Summer food is fun.  Sometimes I wish I could split myself in half so I could have enough time to do both the career thing and the other stuff.  Like making… Read more >

Please help my pathetic rolls

That thing up there.  That’s home-made sushi. Yeah.  I know.  [The fact that I had to explain what a food photo is…speaks volumes…right?] I’m really not sure what I’m worse at – rolling or slicing.  But it was bad guys.  Really bad.  I welcome all comments that can assist in future sushi making.  Clearly skimming the pamphlet that came with the sushi mat (back when I got it four years ago) wasn’t enough. For filling ingredients we went kinda untraditional. This was a tofu spread that I made with extra firm tofu, tahini, and soy… Read more >

What can I say?

This weekend was just plain awesome.  I don’t know what else to say.  My sister came to visit.  My friends threw me a baby shower.  And I just felt so loved.  And fortunate.  Things are good. Thursday night was tree decorating and burrito bar. On Friday, my sister arrived!  Hooray 🙂   While she was doing the oh-so-hideous I-5 drive, I woke up early, made breakfast (the standard egg and GF bread with Earth Balance), and read.   I had a snack a little later.  Rice cakes with nut butter & dried fruit is becoming… Read more >

Goddess of the leftovers

I’m pooped.  And it’s no mystery why, but I still find it odd that doing so little can leave me feeling so. wiped. out. Fortunately, I came home from the weekend of Thanksgivings with so much food, that I didn’t even have to go grocery shopping for the whole week afterwards (!!).  Ok, that’s a lie, I went once to grab marinara sauce, but otherwise I’ve been eking by on leftovers and extra groceries alone. So what do you do when (a) you’ve been stuffing your face for 5 days in a row and (b)… Read more >
