In the still of the night

I leave for work and it’s pitch black outside…12 hours later I leave the hospital and it’s again darkness.

I can’t really complain since I spent Friday on the beach with Kyle (summer sun in October, what whaaaat).  But I worked this weekend and tried to take a photo out the kitchen window before I left…just to show the lack of light.

Didn’t really work.  :(  It’s so dark out, all you can see is my reflection.

My breakfast is far more photogenic.  Quinoa on quinoa?  Why not!

I added Sweet Almond & Quinoa granola to regular (cooked) quinoa, then I poured almond milk over the whole thing and dug in.

Soft, crunchy, sweet, nutty, and delicious.  With protein packed in every bite.

I had the same thing for breakfast at work.  It was SUCH a slow work weekend.  We discharged 11 patients on Saturday – that’s nearly half the unit!

I brought this Caesar tofu pasta salad for lunch.  It’s one of the meals I crave the most.  All the time.

Follow Your Heart’s vegan Caesar salad dressing is so good, you could add it to salad, bread, pasta, grains, whatever!

There were other eats too, obviously.  Like carrots, corn nuts, Larabars, and such.

Lately I crave carrots around the clock.  In the past 48 hours I’ve single handedly polished off a 2 lb bag of them (not everything makes the blog).

Carrot Cake is so-so, Peanut Butter Cookie is awesome, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is ridiculous.

I got home from work ready to crash on the couch.  But I didn’t.  Clearly.  Because there were leftovers to be had.

Seitan, steamed sweet potatoes, seaweed salad and avocado.

The seaweed salad is leftover from our Erewhon dinner

Dessert, if you can call it that, was tea, cornbread, and HBO.  Say hi to Kyle’s beer in the background.

What’s your fave HBO show?  We don’t have cable tv anymore, so we swoop on our friend’s HBO Go to keep up to date on True Blood.  That and Curb are definitely worth tuning into.  As far as Showtime goes, we use Netflix to watch Dexter (I also saw – and LOVED – the first season of Nurse Jackie).

Nurse Jackie is awesome! I just watched the 2nd season… it’s nice to see a series that has something different going on for once, and a bit of clever writing. I couldn’t take True Blood seriously, it’s so cheesy and melodramatic (but still I watch it, slightly addictive).

We don’t have any premium channels either, so we’re always a season behind, watching them on Netflix. Just finished up Season 5 of Dexter and Season 3 of True Blood. My favorite show of all time, however, is Six Feet Under.

This reminds me that I need to return two Netflix dvds. Thanks!

i completely agree…its so ridiculously over the top. i still watch it, but im also rolling my eyes and trying to predict the next insane creature thats going to suddenly emerge with magical powers.

Um, your hair in the reflection looks way too good. It reminds me of Jennifer Aniston. Tell me you don’t get up and do your hair every morning before you go in for a 12 hour shift? Just humor me.

I went through a baby carrots faze (like a bag every few days) a couple of weeks ago, and then just like that, it disappeared. Funny how that happens.

I love Dexter, but we don’t have cable either, so I haven’t seen any of the last 2 seasons.

My fave HBO show was definitely Entourage. I’m heartbroken that it’s over!!

    I love Dexter!

I actually came over to comment and say Thank You! My sister in law delivered her baby this weekend, 2 months early. The baby weighs 4.5 pounds and has to be in the NICU for a few weeks, but everything should be fine. The past week really made me appreciate all of the work that nurses do- it truly is one of the most important jobs in the world. While we were all quite panicked the past few days, we were put at ease knowing that the medical staff at her hospital (Lenox Hill in NYC) were all so capable, knowledgeable, and caring.

believe me, im SO bitter about it, but yes, i have to get up and do my hair before work now thats its so short. i have an afro and it wont fit in a ponytail!!! so annoying.

ps i have a feeling the carrot phase will go through a lull soon. thats how it goes, ebbs and flows.

what kind of corn nuts are those??
and i don’t think i watch HBO shows. i don’t have any of the special channels anyway. is nurse jackie or dexter on HBO?

  13. Elise (Post author)

nope. dex and RN jackie are showtime. another premium channel we dont get. i bought nurse jackie on itunes and rented dexter on netflix.
corn nuts are from whole foods. they package their own bulk bin items and it was in with the nuts/dried fruit. previously i have bought inka brand though. they are delish.

we don’t pay for premium channels either. just not worth it.
i wish i lived closer to a whole foods. the closest ones are 15 miles away (not far, i know, but inconvenient – one of these days i will venture into one). i’ll check out the new seasons by my house. thanks for the info!
