Saucy giveaway

Last week our casa was on the FedEx circuit nearly every day.  Aside from Kyle’s latest set of course readers, most of the packages we got were fun, foodie filled items.

The one I was especially eager to try was from Lundberg Farms.  I’ve been a fan for a while (love their GF couscous and rice cakes).  Because they are a family owned and operated company, they’re able to ensure the quality of their products is top notch.

IMG_1982

They recently partnered up with Stonehouse 27, a newer company that specializes in rich sauces, full of exotic spices, fresh herbs, and completely natural ingredients.

IMG_1987

They offer six sauce flavors – most which are vegan, gluten free, and contain less that 25 mg of sodium.  Heart healthy!

How does tamarind & garlic sound?

I agree.

IMG_2061

If only you could smell this photo.

IMG_2062

It was as if I opened up a jar of India.  To be fair, I’ve never been to India, so that last sentence was based on my experiences dining at Indian restaurants (and a very specific section of the Whole Foods hot bar).  The aroma was intoxicating.  I was half tempted to nix dinner and eat it as soup straight from the jar.  Ok, not really, but I may have taken a spoon to it – just to sample.  😉

IMG_2063

As you can see, the cooking directions show just how simple these two companies make meal time.  [FYI, you can find these products at your local Whole Foods or health foods store/co-op]

Step 1) Add sauce and veggies to medium saucepan.  [I had leftover green beans, so they were an easy choice]

IMG_2065

Step 2) Lick drips from the side of the jar Simmer.

IMG_2064

Step 3) Serve with pasta, rice, quinoa, farro, or naan.

IMG_1985

Rather than use the heat & eat brown rice bowl they sent me, I saved it for a work day (it’s such an easy on-the-go option).  Plus, our rice cooker is practically going around the clock with either rice or quinoa, so that made dinner even easier.

The green beans and sauce cooked in under 3 minutes.  I’m not exaggerating.  I don’t know what was more difficult, waiting for the rice to cook or trying not to eat Kyle’s portion of the sauce.

IMG_2069

I managed.  Barely.

IMG_2072

The complexity of the sauce was uncanny; it was rich, with a nice balance of sweet and spicy.  How they get such fresh and authentic seasonings in there is a mystery to me.  The coconut milk added a creaminess to it that was fantastic.

I’d serve it with quinoa for some protein. I love that the sauces are low in sodium. Why is it that so many foods are high in sodium when they don’t have to be?

  15. Kelsey
