Savory madness

If there are typos in this post it’s because I’m running on 1/8th a tank.  I just worked three night shifts in a row (not pretty) and now I’m attempting to write and bake a new gluten free bread following no recipe.  We will see how this post turns out soon enough, but I’ll have to wait ‘til tomorrow to see how the bread tastes.

In the meantime, I’m going to attempt to make a savory oat believer out of the 50% of you who still refuse to give it a shot.

C’mon, doesn’t that look insanely good??

The oats may as well be risotto or couscous or any other grain.

But I’ll get to the recipe in a bit.  I’m moving at a snail’s pace today.  It’s raining here in Santa Monica, which means I have a perfectly acceptable reason to wear PJs all day weekend.  But I’m not going to because (a) it’s Kyle’s birthday, (b) Kyle’s parents are visiting, (c) my sister’s visiting, and (d) we have plans.

That said, I certainly enjoyed being a sloth this afternoon.   Thank you March Madness.

My bracket is totally effed.  Thank you Duke.

[Yes, I realize I said we have no cable.  We stream the games online and watch them on the TV by connecting the iPad with some adaptor cord thingy…clearly I know nothing about how our appliances work]

After cycling home in the rain, I showered and went straight to bed.  When I woke up I was craving a bowl of something warm and savory.

So I started cooking oats as I normally do, then I added in some frozen peas, nutritional yeast, and poured them over chopped seitan.

Then I drenched the entire thing in Bragg’s liquid aminos and called it a day.

Oh sweet savory explosion of yum.

Happy St. Patty’s Day!  Erin go Bragh

This looks great! I toss oats in the rice cooker with another grain (millet or amaranth), onion, and carrots when I’m making porridge but I haven’t tried straight-up savory oats. I love the idea of serving it over seitan. This would make a great breakfast…or “breakfast for dinner” meal.

Hope you get some rest amidst the frivolity this weekend!

Yea, MU’s loss yesterday screwed my whole bracket. Lol good thing I didn’t bet on it. Those oats look SO GOOD! I love savory oats, I hope you get some converts out of this one!

I love oats and I love savory, as I’m not a sweets girl, but I always make my oats with (original) almond milk and not water which means “savory” doesn’t work as well. Yes, I’ve made them with water before and tried the savory–it is good–but for me, I prefer rice or something if I’m going savory.

However, oats are cheap, easy and hold me over longer. I’m not making much sense, but the moral of the story is Viva la Oats!

Sorry on the busy week, I can relate! The oats look wonderful! I’ve never tried savory oats, but must now!

I am too afraid to try savory oats because I already really like oats and knowing me I would try savory oats, fall in love, and never eat anything but oats ever again…I will try them tomorrow 😉

I made pizza-style savory oats for the first time the other day…I had some leftover sautéed onions, mushrooms and spinach from the night before, so I stirred those into my morning oats along with some dried basil and oregano and topped ’em with leftover pizza sauce. So good!

Yay for savory oats! My favorite for sure. I usually have them with soy sauce and sesame oil, but lately I’ve also been adding chili garlic sauce and an egg.

I made some “savory” oats this morning too. In honor of St Pattys day, I made some green oats, grinding up some spinach to add in. It wasn’t overly savory, but not at all bad either.
Oh, and my brackets are totally screwed up too thanks to Duke. Why I continue to pick them to win every year is beyond me…
