Terry Walters can do no wrong

No seriously.  She has never let me down; not once. I love her recipes so much that her cookbook, Clean Food, was the only one that escaped a 3 month hibernation (in a So Cal storage facility).  Everything else was packed up in NYC, shipped off to a remote location in LA, and has been waiting for us to move into our new Santa Monica apartment…but I just couldn’t part with this one.  Sure, my SoniCare toothbrush I forget, but not my beloved cookbook.  Priorities people, priorities. Anyways, in an effort to expand my in-laws’… Read more >

Blackberries and apricots

When you have no job and summer fruit aplenty… I’d say it’s pie time we do some baking!  [har har har]  In this case, an apricot/blackberry crisp was on the menu. *Note: to make this recipe vegan, substitutions are indicated in parenthesis (ie exchange the butter for Earth Balance and the brown sugar for turbinado sugar).  Step 1: Wash, pit, and chop 12-15 apricots (into bite sized pieces) Step 2: Prep crumble crust (fruit topping) in separate mixing bowl 1/3 c. butter or margarine (sub Earth Balance for vegan recipe) 1/2 c. packed brown sugar… Read more >

Being an aunt is fun…

Because at the end of the day, you can give the kiddos back to the parents. Alternate title for this post: the four-time-reheated coffee. Seriously.  I don’t think I had two sips in sequence.  It all started bright and early…at 7:30 AM to be exact. We served up breakfast… …but at you can see, the kids were a bit distracted. Ernie has a tendency to do that.  I’d like to say orange skinned puppets aren’t my thing, but they must have some sort of audience… Anyways, once we cleaned up the hash browns, toast, eggs,… Read more >

The brown version

Can you tell I’ve been behind on my reviews? Last time I enlisted the help from my fam in consuming Nature’s Pride Country White bun.  Now it’s time for the brown buns. The 100% Whole Wheat ones, that is! Like last time, I have Foodbuzz to thank for these goodies.  And also like last time, I have my fam-bam to thank for the help in reviewing. The table was set with all the necessary accessories (BBQ sauce, dijon mustard, ketchup, tomatoes, and of course avocado) There was some confusion at the store, and I couldn’t… Read more >

How ‘bout them apples?

Apple-a-holics anonymous meetings should not be held anywhere near Washington. They should be held far far away. I’ve been quite the produce whore lover up here in the Evergreen State…but rather than list off each fruit and vegetable like I’m talking to my niece…how about a photo montage?  Yes?  Ok.   And then there were veggies… Can it please stay summer forever?  I want to live off of this seasonal produce forever!
