Very Berry Salad

I didn’t come up with this salad name.  I’m pretty sure that’s the handwriting of my sister circa 1992.  Here’s a translation: Dressing 1/3 cup EVOO 1/3 cup vinegar (regular – as in not balsamic) 1/2 cup sugar 2 T sesame seeds 1 T white onion, finely chopped 1/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce 1/4 tsp paprika Salad 1-2 pints strawberries a whole lotta spinach 3 T almonds, slivered optional: crumbled goat cheese, avocado   I retook the (below) photo three times because it looked so weird.  Despite the odd coloring, there really aren’t any special effects… Read more >

Be-UDI-ful Bagels

In case you were unaware, I don’t post all my eats.  There are several reasons for this, but that’s neither here nor there. My point is, had I posted photos of every bite, you would have seen the slow and steady demise of my multi-nut butter.  I’m making it again asap because I have been a nutbutter-a-holic lately.  Another confession, I threw away half a tub of spinach today.  It was all watery and gross.  I can’t recall the last time I had plain veggies, let alone a salad.  And that’s just plain bizarre (and… Read more >

Kane have some more

In case you were unaware, I really love sushi.  I’ve always loved sushi.  When I moved from CA to NYC, I stopped eating fish because I didn’t like the idea of not knowing from where where it came.  Responsibly-caught, fresh-from-the-Pacific fish, however, is ok by me.  So now that I’m back on the West Coast, I’ve been more open to re-introducing fish into my diet.  Kinda.  Sushi is currently one of the only ways I will eat fish.  And although I can count on one hand the number of sushi outings I’ve had in the… Read more >

Cake from August

After my parents left, Kyle and I spent the day catching up on errands around the apartment.  It was raining so we kept busy indoors with football…and cooking. I can’t believe this dish turned out to be such a hit.  It was truly the most random thing ever, but it ended up really wowing my husband.  It wasn’t vegan, but it could easily be made so.  I guess that makes it blog-worthy… Because I threw it together using what I had on hand, you probably already have the ingredients too.  Tomatoes, onions, rice…they’re basics. Comfort… Read more >

Starting the day with savory

My Huckleberry addiction continued on Sunday morning with my parents, sister, and Kyle.  Since it was a weekend morning, the place was packed, but at least we got to watch them make bread while waiting in line.  And ogle over the baked goods.  Maple Bacon Biscuits.  Whole Wheat Raisin Scones.  Apple Almond Cake. Whole Wheat Fruit Slices.  Zucchini Teacake.  Blueberry Ciabatta.  Flatbread of the day. Macaroons.  Peanut Butter Cookies.  Whole Wheat Shortbread Cookies.  Ginger Teacake. Mini Chocolate Cupcakes.  Chocolate Chip Cookies.  So which look best to you?  If they were vegan, I’d be all over… Read more >
