Marinate

My camera battery died before I could get a picture of the finished product…but it was a good one.   I marinated some tofu in a mix of soy sauce, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes for a few days…   Which produced a really flavorful end product without any work at all!  Seriously, I poured the stuff (unmeasured) into a tupperware, added the slabs of tofu and forgot about them.   For the fastest sammie prep ever, I spread hummus on one slice, and mashed the tofu up on the other.  Threw some spinach… Read more >

Night rider

Working the PM shift means (a) cycling to work, (b) sleeping at odd hours, and (c) craving dinner foods for breakfast and vice versa. Potatoes are kinda an anytime food.  And based on their shape they have different names, which correspond with breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Pretty random, but interesting (to me at least).  Hash?  Breakfast.  Wedges?  Dinner.  Fries?  Lunch.  Cubes?  Dinner.  Shoetrings?  Lunch.  Which am I missing?    I don’t know what meal this was actually.  There was coffee involved, which also doesn’t help narrow it down much.  😉   Yummy.  I sprinkled nooch… Read more >

While you were out

My amazing guest blogs allowed me to take a hiatus from posting, but I was still snapping pictures for the good stuff.  There’s no way I could share a week’s worth of food in one post, so I will limit it to the top three highlights worth sharing…all of which happen to start with the letter “B”.  1. Bread I’ve made probably 5 loaves since I last blogged.  I’ve been changing the ratios of flours with each one.  Some have been stellar (like the 2 pound loaf that I single-handedly polished off in one day)…while… Read more >

Tailgate to win

Last weekend we schlepped two BBQs and a whole lotta gear to the Rose Bowl for a day of tailgating.  Kyle’s family came too, so we needed a ton of food.   Naturally, we went to Whole Foods for groceries.  The one in Pasadena is LA’s flagship store and it’s the most insane WF I have ever seen.  Ever.  I could have spent the whole day there, just browsing the aisles.    We almost bought the entire store.  And it wasn’t even my fault.  Beverly made a rookie mistake, going to the prepared foods… Read more >

Birthday Blog Takeover #10

There’s no introduction that could do my dad justice.  Both he and my mom have taught me so much that has undoubtedly shaped the person I am today.    [family dinner at Millennium 2010] Having parents raise you with an emphasis on health means that no matter how far you stray from what you were brought up on (I’m looking at you – college years) you always have a solid foundation to fall back on.  My mom made wholesome, well-rounded meals every night that we ate as a family.  Vegetables were always present and dessert… Read more >
