Svelte smoothie

Since becoming veg(ish), I’ve been trying to teach Kyle about nutrition so he gets adequate amounts of everything – macronutrients, vitamins, minerals, etc.  It’s not that it’s hard to do when you’re avoiding meat, it’s just that he doesn’t have a health background and he’s new at it.   In addition to listening to Jillian’s podcasts, he’s been reading Brendan Brazier’s books…along with this book that I just got him. Becoming Vegan (the GI one is for my own research) So anyway, he’s been tracking his protein intake which made me think about my own… Read more >

Tortilla therapy

My sisters and I were my mom’s sous-chefs growing up and one of my favorite dishes she made was an enchilada casserole because we got to rip up corn tortillas and then make layers out of the pieces.  It was so fun tearing them up and then putting them back together again like puzzle pieces. I like destruction and I love puzzles, so you can see why I was a fan of the recipe. For a while now I’ve been meaning to make a casserole that uses corn tortillas as a layer. That’s marriage

Kyle is the best husband.  I don’t have to worry about this going to his head because he doesn’t really read HHH I got to fly home from Nor Cal, but Kyle had to drive.  Six hours on the I-5 is pretty miserable.  And on top of that, he was nice enough to lug all my heavy Christmas presents home.  And anything and everything else I didn’t want to carry. Like six jars of jam. Weee!  My mom makes the best freakin’ jams and now we are stocked for a long long time. And that… Read more >

When bread is more important than looking pretty

Have you ever had Eggs Benedict?  Don’t worry, there’s no hollandaise to be found in this post.    Truthfully, I don’t even know what’s in hollandaise sauce, but I think there’s butter and some other artery clogging stuff.  Not for me. I’ll tell you what IS for me though.  Bread. If I had to limit myself to one food for the rest of time it would probably be bread.  Meh.  I will probably take that statement back the second I remember something else I frequently binge on.  But for now let’s just go with it. … Read more >

That’s so last year

I’m all about renting cabins for New Year’s Eve (mellow setting, cheap booze, BYO food, super simple non-existent clean up…what’s not to love!?).  Usually we alternate between Lake Tahoe and Napa, but this year we changed it up. There are a few different ways to get to Clearlake.  We chose the wrong one.    Do you see those curves?!?  As someone who gets motion sickness very easily, this was a rather unpleasant drive.  We had to pull over a few times because I thought I was going to lose my lunch.  Not fun. Eventually we… Read more >
