The East side

I think I’m psychic.  Every time I float, I get a “feeling” that it’s gonna happen as I head into work.  I swear, I’m not making it up.  Yesterday I even said out loud (in my head) “I bet I’m floating today”.  And I did!  I was on 7 East yesterday, an acute medicine floor (as they call themselves).  The last time I floated was probably in the winter, so I’m definitely due, but it’s still odd to me that I sensed it coming.  I’ve also been having crazy weird ass dreams lately (which I… Read more >

Sleep eating

Despite the fact that I had to leave the party early because I was working night shift (a situation made even more depressing due to the fact that I missed a call to get the day off because the hospital was overstaffed), I still had a nice day.   With friends and food and outdoor fun. I had an Amy’s California veggie burger on a toasted bun (Bristol Farms) with guacamole, mustard, lettuce, and tomato. Deeeelish. This meal actually prompted a week long series, in which I ate burgers and sandwiches for every lunch… Read more >

It’s not delivery…

It’s pick-up. Since publishing my book, I’ve been rather lazy in the cooking department.  Home-made eats have been at an all time low.  Our kitchen is sad, I’m sure, but I’m enjoying the time off. Anyway, when delivery.com asked me if I’d like to try out their service (with a $10 off voucher) I said sure!  It was the perfect excuse (not that I need justification for getting take-out). I’d been craving Thai food for a while, so I entered our address and “thai” and immediately Thai Dishes popped up.  Perfect!  It was on my… Read more >

For the 4th of July

I’ll be working night shift…which may give me a view of fireworks…maybe not.  But I took it upon myself to celebrate a day early with red raspberry studded pancakes.    Topped in maple syrup (because you don’t need much when there are raspberries oozing from your hot cakes).   So good! What are you doing on this patriotic holiday?  Hope it involves frozen treats.   And watermelon.  🙂 If you’re a huge procrastinator, you might still be searching for some recipe ideas for the 4th of July festivities.  And if you’re already set, then consider… Read more >

Dessert Cubes

This recipe still needs tweaking but it tasted great, so in the meantime, here’s how to make it. The lovely people at Suzanne’s Specialties took an interest in my FODMAPs experimentation…and sent me some products to try out. Rice syrup is a FODMAPs free sweetener that I’ve been meaning to try for a while.  Usually I use maple syrup, but brown rice syrup offers a different flavor with a stickier, more honey-like texture.  And it’s also organic, non-GMO, and gluten free so there’s no sacrifice whatsoever. So.  About these little dessert cubes. They are based… Read more >
