About Elise
I’m a nurse. An exercise lover. A whole foods connoisseur. A health enthusiast. And I have IBS. No need to cue the sappy violin music yet...
I’ve found that eating a mostly plant-based diet has allowed me to continue to live and love life to the fullest. Although moderation isn’t something I do well, I’m 100% devoted to giving my body pure, wholesome, quality food. Nutritious and delicious, all the time.
Hungry Hungry Hippie is a way for me to share my daily dealings with food, fitness, and everything in between.
Kyle’s coworkers tease him (in a fun, non-mean way) about his healthy vegetarian lunches. Apparently he’s the organic, non GMO hippie of his office, just like I am in mine. 🙂 Now his colleagues are wondering when I’m going to start packing food for all of them. Which I’m considering a victory for veggies everywhere. Thanksgiving leftovers on quinoa. Oatmeal & snacks. Spaghetti. Crock-pot potato chowder (recipe coming). Pita SB&J with organic Swanson sunbutter and home-made pluot plum jam. 18 Rabbits gracious granola packet with organic vanilla greek yogurt. Scrambled mish… Read more >

I’m pooped. And it’s no mystery why, but I still find it odd that doing so little can leave me feeling so. wiped. out. Fortunately, I came home from the weekend of Thanksgivings with so much food, that I didn’t even have to go grocery shopping for the whole week afterwards (!!). Ok, that’s a lie, I went once to grab marinara sauce, but otherwise I’ve been eking by on leftovers and extra groceries alone. So what do you do when (a) you’ve been stuffing your face for 5 days in a row and (b)… Read more >

We went out to dinner last week. It’s been cold and rainy in Santa Monica, which calls for real Fall clothes. Bump peek-a-boo. Now you see it, now you don’t. We went to True Food Kitchen, an easy choice as it’s within walking distance and the menu accommodates all dietary needs. We shared the kale salad to start (parm on the side). And I got “the natural” to drink (a sweet ginger fizzy drink). Not wanting to be predictably repetitive, I DIDN’T get the TLT sandwich or the tofu rice bowl, and instead went… Read more >

This post is semi-embarrassing, but was fun to reflect on and write. I don’t eat a “perfect” diet now (whatever that means), nor will I ever, but I’ve come a LONG way in the past decade. *** I didn’t live in an apartment until my senior year of college. Before that I was in the dorms or the sorority house. We all know what dorm life is like…needless to say, moving to a gorgeous mansion with tons of girlfriends was a big upgrade. And although living with a million other females wasn’t always such a… Read more >
