About Elise

I’m a nurse. An exercise lover. A whole foods connoisseur. A health enthusiast. And I have IBS. No need to cue the sappy violin music yet... I’ve found that eating a mostly plant-based diet has allowed me to continue to live and love life to the fullest. Although moderation isn’t something I do well, I’m 100% devoted to giving my body pure, wholesome, quality food. Nutritious and delicious, all the time. Hungry Hungry Hippie is a way for me to share my daily dealings with food, fitness, and everything in between.

Life in Lafayette

Now that I’m back in L’town (my affectionate name for the town I grew up in), it’s wedding task-a-mania up in hurrr. You’d think I’d be sleeping in (given my job-less state), but you’d be wrong.  My sinuses have been crazy pissed at me with all the location changes (NYC, LA, Mexico, Newport Beach, San Clemente, and now the Bay Area).  As a result I’ve been waking up with the sun thanks to an intense throbbing pressure in my head.  Lovely.  I’ve been buddy-buddy with Sudafed as of late. Anyways, since I’m not quite back… Read more >

Happa J’s

Before leaving Newport Beach to head up to the Bay Area, Kyle and I made a detour and headed down to San Clemente.  Some of Kyle’s fam live in the area so we spent a day with them relaxing at the beach. For dinner, we tried a Hawaiian inspired restaurant called Happa J’s. It was really nice and spacious with several rooms (the lounge, the main dining area, and the bar) surrounded by windows with a cool surf ambiance.  They brought us edamame to snack on while we browsed the menu. I decided on the… Read more >

Showered

Last weekend, my Aunt, cousins, and G-ma threw me a wedding shower. Sisters & cousins. Me & G-ma. Mom & Aunt. It was at my G-ma’s in Newport Beach and was definitely a hippie affair. Exhibit A: My sis gave me an HHH engraved cutting board Exhibit B: My cousin prepared a vegan cake Yep, that delicious looking thing was VEGAN.  But I’m getting ahead of myself starting with dessert.  Let me back up to the rest of the day’s menu… Appetizers Veggies, pita wedges, pita chips, and many flavors of hummus. Lunch spread Catering… Read more >

Disneyland for the veg lovers

People don’t go to Disneyland for the food.  Period. The fact that things cost six times what they should isn’t even the worst part (and I’m no stranger to paying $20 for a salad – Whole Foods hot bar?).  Nothing screams gourmet like a Pluto Dog (how sad, by the way, for kids to associate their meal’s “meat” with a beloved character).  But, like I said, that’s not why people go to the “Happiest Place on Earth.”  Expect the worse, and you’ll never be disappointed right? So, in the interest of being prepared, I did… Read more >

Peek-a-boo

I’m here!  I’m alive!  I swear.  I’ve just been busy with too many fun things to remember to blog. Like a Disneyland trip for my mom’s birthday. And my wedding shower! 🙂 Momz, me, and my Auntie Wendy   …and a vegan cake, of course (thanks to my cousin’s baking brilliance).  I’ll be back with the deets about my shower (or at least the food part) and how to do a vegan(ish) day at Disneyland.
