Avada Kedavra

My breakfast was a bit out of the ordinary.

IMG_3339IMG_3377

Coffee, normal.  Open faced grilled cheese, not normal?  On the side, I had two apples, which complimented the VeganRella mozz perrrrrfectly

Crunch + melty = great (albeit bizarre) breakfast

For lunch I made a tofu salad with a new twist on a fave recipe.  The last time I made this was a big success, so I recreated it, but with a few changes (less mayo, more tofu, brocc slaw instead of celery, shredded carrots instead of chopped).

IMG_3353IMG_2790

The result was just as successful.  I had it on two pieces of bread…open faced “egg” (tofu) salad.  NOM.

I love me some fat a$$ holes (tnwss).  Next thing I knew, I was loaded up on dried fruit and Kyle was home(!!).  He got off work early (lovin’ the Friday summer schedule), so we went for he forced me to go on a run in Central Park.  The humidity was horrible, and I realized very quickly just how out of shape I really was.  Blah.  I finished all 7 miles, but it was a struggle.  Note to self: get in shape.  Ever since I went to Hawaii, the motivated runner in me seems to have gone on a permanent vacay.  I cannot find my former self ANYWHERE, and it’s been so frustrating to feel so apathetic about something I used to LOVE.  I realized just how much my fitness has slipped today when I was huffing and puffing on the 10K loop that normally I finish as half my daily exercise regimen.

My first coconut water.  I know this has been a big thing in the blog world, especially as a post-workout re-hydration drink, but it was kinda weird.  I didn’t finish it.  I think maybe I’ll use the rest for cooking instead?  Maybe the flavored ones would be an easier way to initiate my taste buds?

When I got home this beauty was waiting on the foyer.  Package!!  Organic falafel chips.

Is there a single product that could be MORE perfect for my eating habits?  I think not.  Thank you Melanie!  I can’t wait to slather these babies in hummus.

IMG_3391

Before Kyle and I headed off to see HARRY POTTER I gobbled down hummus and apples…I had 25 250 times the amount of hummus shown.

I smuggled a trilogy Kombucha into the theatre.  I won’t give anything away, but it was goooooood.

We raced home after the movie because (a) rain looked merely seconds away (b) I was starving and (c) I had to get in bed extra early for the yuck work stretch ahead.

IMG_3388

The local health foods store really hooked it up for the quick and easy dinner.

IMG_3390

Morningstar veggie burger, lettuce, sprouts, tomato, and vegan mayo on a sesame seed Ezekiel bun (to which I added, you guessed it, hummus).

I also made a quick quinoa salad with shredded carrots, and MORE hummus.

IMG_3392

I ate half and then put the rest (above) in a tuperware for work tomorrow.  Here’s the rest of my pre-packed eats.

IMG_3393

SuperProtein odwalla bar, dried mango and pineapple rings, mini-tub of hummus, apple, and salad (with spinach/quinoa/carrot/dried cranz).

Sweet dreams kiddos!

Cheesy toast is good at any time of day. Ditto hummus. Conventional ‘rules’ go out of the window when chickpeas, cheese and nut butters are involved.

Huh, maybe you left your running ‘pep’ in Hawaii…you could maybe claim it on health insurance and and get a paid trip back? Just say that you left an important part of your soul there and it’s imperative that you return ASAP.

    Love the tofu salad! 😀

Hope today goes smoothly at work…replenish the chocolate supply in your locker!

  3. broccolihut

I love me some tofu salad. I highly recommend adding avocado to your next one!
I’m not entirely convinced of the wonders of coconut water yet either. I have a s**tload of samples to try though, so I better figure out some way to use them!

  4. Graze With Me

Tofu salad is good, better than I thought it would be…

I can’t wait to see HP – I’m glad I’m not the only one 🙂

Avra Kedavra! I’m not going to lie…I totally cried at that part.
I wish a 10K loop was a part of my regular exercise regime! 7 miles is amazing, even if you didn’t feel like it was perfect. You are an awesome runner!

hey, you can eat whatever you want for breakfast 🙂

as far as the zico goes – if you are willing – next time try to flavored ones (mango or passion fruit) – I LOVE them, I’m hoping maybe it was just the plain flavor that threw you off? 🙂

I think you should leave your job, move to Hawaii and open a hummus shop! DO IT. make your own hummuses. have other people come in and make their own hummuses…

    hey it could happen?

Maybe you just need a NEW motivation to run, like that whole “dangling a carrot in front of a donkey thing.” (No, I didn’t just call you an a*s).

I’m thinking you pretend you’re chasing a giant tub of hummus or a container of dates and PB. Heck, that might even get me running.

Speaking of hummus, I want your idea on my mascot contest! There’s no one I know (online) with quite the devotion to our beloved food accessory (or main feature…whatever, I don’t judge). 🙂

I find with the coconut water, I far prefer the flavored variety. I had the same reaction with the unflavored kind. My fav is VitaCoco. They have lots of flavors, but the best is pineapple!

Dude did u love Harry pot pot!?? I thought it was awesome- sitting in the second row kinda sucked though 😀

Glad u had fun in CA, i’m soo bummed the only pita pit near me is verrryyy far away!

Thanks for the review of the coconut water – I just bought some for post-marathon training runs (I forgot to drink it after this morning’s run though, haha) and I have heard mixed reviews. I got one plain and a few flavors, so I’ll let you know how I like the flavored ones!

Hold the phone – you got falafel chips?! What has the world come to? I need these sweet bags of love! Another incentive for me to vaca in NYC?? AND when I come to NYC I can rub off my ‘new runner glow’ to you 😉

That veggie burger is a large Marge and I love it.

  13. lilveggiepatch

Falafel chips?! Let us know how those are! I think I’m going to Maoz today for the first time… very exciting.

Motivation is hard after a vacation (dealing with that now too), but don’t be too hard on yourself… you ran 7 miles! You kick booty!

  14. Rika

your pineapples look soo good!! where do you get them? are they coated in extra sugar though? 😀

  15. Courtney

I am so jealous you saw Harry Potter! Was it good? I can’t wait to see it!

Hey–you ran 7 miles! That is big! Don’t poo-poo it…you made it through, which is awesome! Give yourself some credit 🙂

can you come make coffee for me?? seriously, that looks delicious!

I want to try that “egg” salad, too! love it.

and don’t beat yourself up too much over running. 7 miles is a significant distance! and we all go through ruts with our passions. I’ve def gone through times when running seems like a chore. you’ll get back into it 🙂

  17. homegirlcaneat

OMG HOW GOOD WAS HARRY POTTER??!?!?! It is actually one of my new FAVORITE movies just because I was cracking up at all the awkward sexual tension and HP IS SO CUTE! Oh my gawd, I need to go see it again.

I don’t know where my running self has gone either?!!?!? I used to be racking up the miles and now I’m like 2 miles? Sure. WHAT?! I USED TO BE DOING 8! Oh well, that is what school in the fall is fo! (me on a schedule = less beer)

  18. amy

don’t fret over your run – hot and humid weather makes it so much more difficult to workout!

There are few things that I find as exciting as a package in the mail! Which I acknowledge as being quite sad. 😉

  24. elise

i get them from bins and a local health foods store…they are definitely coated in sugar, but they are so good, i think it’s a treat well worth it 🙂

  25. elise

youre right youre right. thanx for the reality check 🙂

  26. elise

I guess ill have to try the flavored ones then! Its not that it was a bad flavor…it just wasn’t that good…or maybe my standards are just too high (thanks Kombucha!).

  27. elise

Omg what a great movie! Fortunately I haven’t reread the book since it first came out so I wasn’t comparing the two throughout…in fact I only really remembered that one (key) part. I think I want to see it again already!
