Best butter brands

Did I call it or did I call it? I knew the second I discovered this Nourish bread in the back of the freezer it’s days were numbered.

The only problem was, I couldn’t decide what I wanted on it.

I kinda felt like nut butter, but I don’t love any of the nut butters I currently have on hand. I mean, they are all fine, but none of them are calling to me lately. Maybe I just need a break from the ones I have been buying? Normally TJs is fine for an every day spread, but hit me up with your faves. I could use a rec or two.

Does anyone have an almond or peanut butter brand they love? Bonus points if it’s not super obscure and you can buy it online (without having to pay for shipping).

Ok, so as you can see I ended up choosing a 50/50 combo.

I just LOVE Miyoko’s vegan butter so much. The almond butter here is Maranatha brand. It was fine enough but the one annoying thing about natural nut butters is that the end of the jar is always so hard. I have tried EVERYTHING to prevent this…stirring it thoroughly each time I use it…storing it in the fridge…storing it in the pantry…storing it upside down…storing it on the side… There’s no way to prevent the top half from being more oily and runny and the bottom half from being more hard and crumbly.

Update to my question above…who knows a good no stir kind that is still natural and doesn’t have hydrogenated oils?

Oh look, a kale salad!

This one had butternut squash, barley, dried cranberries, slivered almonds, candied pecans, and pecorino romano with an orange miso vinaigrette (a tweak on my favorite lemon miso dressing just wapping fresh squeezed orange juice for the lemon).

For dinner we had roasted chicken with cornbread and a Brussels salad.

And then for dessert I had chocolate. Of course.

Is there something biological that makes you crave peppermint bark in December? Or is that entirely a result of marketing? I think the latter, but sometimes I wonder if there is a reason we all have seasonal preferences…like our bodies are pre-wired a certain way due to what crops were available when. I don’t think peppermint chocolate is the prime example of this necessarily, but I certainly don’t crave tomatoes on these dark and dreary cold fall nights.

It’s a little frustrating to deal with those natural nut butters. My tip is open the jar, dump the entire contents in a bowl, mix it with a hand mixer for a few minutes to incorporate the oil well, then scrape back into the jar and store in the fridge. I also turn the jar over every few days to keep it well distributed. It’s not 100% perfect but it beats the stir, stir, stir method.

A nut butter alternative: tahini with a drizzle of honey!

Granola butter! Creamy, crunchy, soo so good.
I can recommend Kween brand. I’ve only tried the original flavor and its exactly what I was looking for after having something similar on top of ice cream. I’ll try some on banana bread today.

I mean it’s not technically a nut butter, but Amazon pantry has 6 sun butters for I think $25? I also haaate that almond butter thing where it gets super hard at the bottom. I love runny nut butter over everything, and I love how sun butter pretty much is the same consistency throughout the jar

Santa Cruz Organic *dark roast* crunchy peanut butter is the best. It’s like Adams natural crunchy peanut butter (before they got bought out by Smuckers) which was my total fave growing up.

The Santa Cruz does have oil on top but I just stir it really good then keep it at room temp and stir a little every time and it doesn’t get dry – maybe because I eat it so quick though? It’s really good.

Also – one time we got a big jar of NuttZo at Costco. It’s totally no stir but also dangerous because it was a little too yummy. Really good on apples, or even straight out of the jar. It was gone in days.

The fancy Artisana butters are good too – especially the walnut one and the pecan one – but so pricey that they’re more of a special occasion treat.

Sorry for the novel. Lots of feelings here about the nut butters apparently.

P.S. I just read the first comment and flash-backed to my childhood when all the moms would dump the oil off the top of the Adams and into the garbage! I didn’t realize you could mix it in until I was in college.

Once Again creamy unsweetened sunflower seed butter is my favorite. Swanson will have it for $5.50 a jar frequently, just have to spend $50 to get free shipping. On occasion I have been able to snag free shipping for spending $25. I have a very small spatula designed for jars and it works well. I also found peanut butter flour mixed with coffee and a mashed banana to be a very satisfying dessert.

oooo…if you can find the link for that spatula, post it here!
