Week ‘o eats

The whole shebang of last week in one post.  Here goes. Breakfast on Monday was the last of this savory bread and fried eggs.   Breakfast on Tuesday was out – I had a savory crepe with hash browns at Crepeville. Because Crepeville’s portions are awesomely massive I had leftovers for breakfast on Wednesday.  Which I paired with two fried eggs. Thursday I made steel cut oats in the rice cooker (the crock pot was already occupied) for our whole family.  I topped mine with a bunch of non-nut things (aka seeds galore) – including… Read more >

Weekend of thanks 2012

I know Thanksgiving was ages ago, but I’m only just getting around to uploading photos and such because my week/end was SO packed I couldn’t be bothered to worry about blogging in a timely manner.    Shorts and a tank top in late November…must be Southern California… For the first time in as long as I can remember ever (!!) I got the holiday – PLUS it’s surrounding days – off of work.  Kyle and I took full advantage, and drove down to his parents’ house in San Clemente on Wednesday afternoon, to stay through… Read more >

I repeat, no work this weekend

I was off this weekend (which is abnormal since I was also off last weekend and I usually have an every other schedule).  So exciting!!   Saturday morning.  Frothy mocha flavored milk.  Home-made bread.  Toasted to oblivion.  Buttered up the yin yang.  Fried egg on the side. Farmer’s market. Restoration Hardware baby & child grand opening.  They have a dresser named after me (too bad these are all too expensive).  Need to hit up some garage sales asap. College football. Lunch.  Breakfast grain mix.  Seitan.  Carrots.  Nutritional yeast. Snack.  Sabra spinach & artichoke hummus.  Carrots…. Read more >

Non-dairy creamers

Taste testing went down over the summer (I know, I know, that was so long ago!) and I’m ready to offer you my thoughts on the variety of mainstream non-dairy creamers on the market.   Ready for reviews?    Wild Wood soymilk creamer Pros: plain flavor didn’t distract from coffee/tea thick texture mixed well with beverages organic (but not advertised as such – oddly enough?) low sugar content (1 g per serving) no sodium Cons: long ingredient list after soymilk (maltodextrin, tapioca starch, etc.) lacking in flavor (it was more bland and less soy tasting… Read more >

Elise lately

Here’s an odd development that I feel like sharing… I seem to have developed an aversion to coffee.  This is frightening to me and I keep waiting for the phase to pass, but it’s been a week and I still can’t finish off my morning cuppa joe.  Tea’s been doing the trick. It’s pretty bizarre that I could go from a caffeine worshiper to, well, whatever I am now.  Hmmm. I’ve been alternating creamer types (soy, coconut, etc.) but I recently fell in love with Almond Breeze’s Unsweetened Vanilla almond milk.    Love!  Thanks to… Read more >
