Day trip to Toledo

May 17th After a hideous night’s sleep I was extremely grumpy in the AM.  I hid it pretty well although I don’t think I strung more than ten words together until noon. We cafe-d and got desayuno para llevar and then set off to Atocha for the second day in a row.  [This time we actually had the intention of going somewhere] Having already purchased tix the day before, we had time to sit and enjoy breakfast before boarding the renfe train to Toledo. My seat mate was tuning me out. Clearly, I wasn’t enjoying… Read more >

A health relapse

Last Friday was a wonderful work day because the entire time I was looking forward to my weekend.  Kyle and I had fun plans that involved good food, family time, and lots of relaxing.  But things took a turn in the afternoon.  Because I was at work, I didn’t get the voice message or email until my lunch break: G-ma’s at the hospital. For those who don’t know, my Grandma is not your average Grandma.  [June, 2011] She works.  She (attempts to) beat me in cards and darts.  And, as much as we all hate… Read more >

Carlsbad weekend

Some peeps who follow me on twitter know that my weekend was full of wedding festivities.  It was so fun to get away for a few days and celebrate the marriage of close friends.  Last August, David was one of Kyle’s groomsmen…and this time around Kyle was in David’s wedding party.  Backing up to Thursday real quick.    This was mostly a day of recovery for me.  My neck and back were still achy, so shopping and packing were my “exercise” for the day.  The reason the bed is a mess is because I freaked… Read more >

Day three in Paris started similar to the rest, alarm clocks and coffee shops.  Yes shops, plural. Starbucks has soy milk, so the lactose intolerant people went there.  Paul has buttery pastries, so the dairy consumers went there. Sadly, Paul doesn’t allow photography inside.  I know that because I got in trouble the first time I went in, camera raised.  The second time I channeled my inner paparazzi peeping Tom and got these shots. Even loitering a few feet from the doorway (like a creep), I could smell how delicious their treats were.  Melted butter… Read more >

Sweet vs Savory

First of all, this venti soy misto was FREE, because believe it or not, there are some perks (beyond heart palpitations) to my Gold Card membership and caffeine addiction.  I had to go to the hospital on Tuesday even though I wasn’t working.  Enduring an early wake up call and morning traffic without the promise of a paycheck demands a special treat – hence the Starbeezies. I had breakfast prepared for the waiting room. [Yes I got odd looks as I busted out a tupperware of oats in a waiting room]   This genius creation… Read more >
