sushi

Good friends, good food, good times

My birthday post last left off with an unopened bottle of Gallo 2007 Cab. We took care of that. Glug glug glug. My birthday suit freakum’ dress – how’d I do Kailey?  I’m fairly certain this was supposed to be a shirt, but I’m not the tallest (ok, I’m short) so I do what I do. For dinner we went to a sushi restaurant in Santa Monica called Wokcano recommended by a friend.  There are a few other locations of this restaurant, all in Southern California. While the rest of our party trickled in, I… Read more >

Kane have some more

In case you were unaware, I really love sushi.  I’ve always loved sushi.  When I moved from CA to NYC, I stopped eating fish because I didn’t like the idea of not knowing from where where it came.  Responsibly-caught, fresh-from-the-Pacific fish, however, is ok by me.  So now that I’m back on the West Coast, I’ve been more open to re-introducing fish into my diet.  Kinda.  Sushi is currently one of the only ways I will eat fish.  And although I can count on one hand the number of sushi outings I’ve had in the… Read more >

Santa Monica Place

Last week was the (long awaited) grand opening of the newly rebuilt mall at the end of the 3rd street promenade…only it’s no longer just a “mall.” The new Santa Monica Place is pretty much the happening spot…but in addition to the high end shopping (finally a Bloomingdale’s on the west side!), there’s an entire dining deck. Source Trust me, this rooftop setting isn’t your average mall food court.  Far from it. Ocean views.  Award winning chefs.  Like I said, it’s the happening spot.  Even after a week of being open, getting reservations was nearly… Read more >

Out of commission

I was suffering for most of the day yesterday. (source) Ironically enough, I was just exclaiming last week how great it was that I finally stopped getting migraines.  Spoke too soon, eh? I tried to fight it. I pounded water by the glass. I even resorted to medications. In the end though, I couldn’t fight the pounding in my head. I crawled into bed after lunch and passed out. I slept until 5:15 pm (!!) [when the babies woke up from their nap, so did I]. I still felt like death so I had another… Read more >

D.C. (part 1)

We crammed so much sight seeing into this past weekend, I hardly know where to begin.  Please excuse my lack of eloquence, horrible sentence structure, and tragic grammar as I recap piece together the past 72 hours (it was Halloween, there was alcohol, and I have the tolerance of Abigail Breslin). Friday Woke up at 4:30 am for a 7 am train departure.  Keep in mind this was after less than 5 hours of sleep, which were (purposefully) broken up each hour, on the hour, so I could check and make sure my drugged up… Read more >
