Welcome to the new place

I don’t have many photos yet because this is the first time I’ve turned on my computer since February, but I wanted to give you a sneak peek of our new apartment home.   Ok, maybe you can’t tell much of anything from the picture of Kyle unpacking the kitchen… The days leading up to the move were chaotic; and it was a (planned) blessing that I worked the day the movers actually came.  It was really weird leaving to go to the hospital from one apartment…and then coming home to a brand new place. … Read more >

Day 6: Parrilla time

I’ll race through the morning food because I already posted about our day trip to Colonia.   Breakfast: coffee and cookies. Lunch was really more of a second breakfast since it was well before noon.  Bread.   Salmon salad.   Spinach ravioli.   After returning to Buenos Aires, we grabbed some snacks at a natural foods market.   And then I bought 70 dollars worth of chocolate. No seriously. Go big or go home right?  Authentic alfajores are a once in a lifetime thing.   For dinner we went to a highly recommended parrilla, Juana… Read more >

Family Oscar Night

A post from Sunday this late in the week?  What the!?   Yes, I know I’m dragging last weekend out.  The truth is, we don’t have internet (or food!!) at our new place yet and I’m leaving this weekend (again) to drive up to Sacramento for a funeral so I have little motivation to share my latest eats.   And last weekend I ate some great stuff, so why not make it last? Breakfast started with coffee and almond milk.  This is worth mentioning because we ran out of almond milk the second day I… Read more >

p.s. chai love you

Is there anything better than a warm mug of chai tea with almond milk? If so, I’d love to try it.  Chai infused breakfasts oats are a start.  And Chai cookies are in my future.  But for now, I’m going to delight in the simplicity of this tea. Work food. Oatmeal with ground flax seeds, blueberries and vanilla almond milk. Fried millet with veggie and hard boiled egg. Carrots, banana, candied ginger as snacks.  Not my usual haul because this was for an 8 hour day, not the full 12.  Luckily we were done with… Read more >

Readers Request: Rice Cooker 101

I use my rice cooker multiple times a week.  Second to the coffee maker it’s probably the number one appliance in our kitchen.  But every time I post about it I get a million follow up questions in the comments section…I have no clue why it’s such a mystery to others, but I’ve been trying to answer questions as best I can in order to reassure you all that it’s truly an idiot proof machine.  Promise! What can you use it for? Everything.  I use it for quinoa more than anything else, but you can… Read more >
