Rules for Oats

Remember last week when I was pancake crazy?  Well.  I’m back in an oatmeal rut.

Almond milk, cinnamon, bananas, peanut butter & maple syrup.

Rules for oatmeal (slash life):

  • No playing favorites.
  • Editing is not necessary (and often discouraged).
  • Go big or go home.
  • The more the merrier.

You get the idea right?  I like lots of toppings.  And I like them all together.

Of course I can’t forget to mention the principles of frugality:

  • Waste not, want not.
  • Never leave a man behind.
  • A penny saved, is a penny earned.

All of which I put to good use when I see an almost done jar of nut butter.

go big or go home is usually my motto when it comes to food. Dinky bagels make me sad.

I love putting oats in old nut butter jars! I also love mixing egg whites into my oats when they are cooking: extra protein!

    Hi Elise,

I found your site a couple of days ago and have been loving it. In all honesty, I haven’t closed it yet, I just keep hopping around from one thing to the other (not in a creepy stalker way… like a happy stalker, lol)

I’m actually about to venture into the world of steel cut oats myself. I like oatmeal, but I get bored easily and I think slow cooking it in different flavors will help that. Plus, the steel cut are better for me.

Any advice? Do you use steel cut?

I heart my oats! I agree, the more the merrier!

I just discovered that I can cook my steel-cut oats in my slow-cooker. Now I can awaken with my oatmeal ready to eat! Tomorrow I am going shopping to collect my favorite toppings: peanut butter, almond butter, maple syrup, cinnamon, chocolate chips, bananas…
