Techno-tart

I think it’s fairly obvious I’m not the most computer savvy person out there…but with the help of Sarah, Mara, and Caroline, I managed to make the much needed (and long overdue) switch to WordPress.

Finally.

I have been putting it off forever, because the idea all these <?/.> things really really scare me.

So now I can continue to sort it out while in Hawaii.  Am I a total freak for thinking vacation is the perfect time for a blog make-over?  Nothing screams relaxation like formatting and codes and DNS settings.

Basically Thursday was a blog-athon interspersed with some food.

Messy messy girl!  I didn’t even have time to clean up my station…now you all can see my frothing device (Caffe Froth).

IMG_2914 IMG_2915

My brekkie was an (almost) K style ABC.  With my AM java, I had an apple, a blueberry chobz, and 5 golden rings two pineapple rings 🙂

This did not hold my appetite AT ALL.  Maybe it was all the stress about losing my archives in the blogger to wordpress transfer, or maybe it was the fact that I downed 75 pounds of coffee before 9 am, but for whatever reason, I needed to pull out the big guns.  And by that I mean oatmeal.

IMG_2701

With THE works: banana, raisins, PB, and carob chips (I’m now out of carob chips AND oats – tear)!

This bowl provided the sustenance necessary to get me through The View AND my DVRed NJ Housewives.

IMG_2916

When it came to lunch, my sights were set.  Roasted red pepper, you have stolen my heart, and I can’t remember what life was like before I knew you.

I had planned on trying to make this tub last me until the weekend…

IMG_2917

Unfortunately, my stomach had different plans…

IMG_2918

I can’t afford such $$ hummus habits!  Plus, I’m leaving for vacation in 3 days, so it seems ridiculous to buy more groceries when the fridge is PLENTY stocked to get me through.  Prepare yourself for some creative (read: leftover crap) meals.  I only have one more tub of hummus left and it’s not Sabra.  See, Elise, that’s what happens when you don’t practice moderation.  What can I say – I’m a glutton for punishment.

After the initial plate of bell peppers, apple slices, carrots, and a Food for Life veggie burger, I had another veggie burger, and then sopped up the last little bit with bread.

Maybe the newest feature to add to my blog should be a tutorial on how to polish off a tub of hummus in one sitting?

Tick tock tick tock – blog, email Mara, blog, email Mara…you get the point.

After I got tired of staring at hippos with pumpkins I crunched through my 3rd apple for the day, and then headed to the gym to sweat it out.

I’m starting to think my basal metabolic rate is, like, Michael Phelps status (believe me, I’m NOT complaining about that…) because I’m hungry around the clock, and feel like I’m consuming a weeks worth of kcals each day!

While at the gym I had non-stop energy after all my grubbing.  I LOVE when I feel like I could run forever and ever.  Best feeling.

My workout: 30 min elliptical, 10 min stair stepper, 10 min elliptical, 20 min tread mill, 10 min elliptical.  Stretch stretch stretch.

Crazy right?  I also had Jillian in my ear, and her podcast is beyond motivating.  Seriously, I now understand – and completely empathize with – the biggest loser contestants.  Fear can really light a fire under your ass!!

IMG_2904

When I got back home I was hangry, so pardon the hideous plate.

I couldn’t get food fast enough!  GOBBED in peanut butter, I had 2 pieces of bread (one Alvarado street slice, one generic ww slice), dates, dried apricots, and apple #4 for the day.  You can kinda tell from the photo, but let me just say, this was A LOT of peanut butter.

IMG_2905

I knew I needed mega fueling though, because I was heading out to a friends surprise birthday party, and I’m not a big fan of the bar food scene.

The night was fun, aside from the misty, insta-afro hair (just add water!!) weather.  When we got home, Kyle and I enjoyed a plate of dessert yummies while watching the season finale of True Blood.

IMG_2672

I also enjoyed apple number 5.  Wow.  That’s a lot.

I hit the sack with dreams nightmares of http not found website pages and google reader errors…

Holla to the ABC!! You just need some biscotti and you’ll be good to go! I fear for you and your lack of hummus – I had the shakes this morning because I was out and it was making me anxious. That’s why I didn’t respond to your email right away – I HAD to go buy some.

Holy PB! I love it! So much better than nasto bar food! What’s the deets on the Food For Life veggie burgs? Yay or nay?

    Happy Friday, my dearest!!

I am seriously considering switching to wordpress- blogspot is driving me crazy!

I cracked open my red pepper hummus today too with plans of it lasting for a few days- eh, NOT going to happen. I give it 24 hours, if that. Stuff is too good and calling my name! Don’t look at the bottom of my post if you have crazy hummus cravings and no red pepper hummus 😉

  3. elise

yeah…blogger was driving me nuts, but im having more issues switching than i thought i would. for some reason google reader has to be chaged to http://www.hungryhungryhippie.com/feed now even though the website is the same? no idea…

haha, glad you love the red pepper hummus. im pretty much obsessed but i CANT buy another before i leave for hawaii! anyways, the moral of the story is A) update your google reader if you use that and B) wordpress is great if you are a computer whiz

oh and we have to have a hummsu date when you visit 🙂

  4. elise

meh. nothing to write home about. the nutritionals are good, but the texture is weird. they werent too $$ though, so that was nice. i like being able to just reply and it sends the email to you. wordpress 1, blogger 0. unfortunately the google reader part is super annoying. elise 0 computer 1 im trying to stay upbeat about this.

SO glad you ran out for hummus. i am going to have to manage to get by the next few days on a non sabra brand…so sad!

  5. ellie

I don’t use google reader- bad stalker that I am 🙁 you are on my blogroll anyway! And yes- a hummus date for sure!

  6. Chocolate-Covered Katie

    I can’t help 🙁

But Mara is MUCH MUCH smarter than me, so I’m betting she’ll be more helpful! God luck!

  7. julie

    you know what they say…

an apple a day keeps the doctor away.

but you work in a hospital sooo yeah I don’t know how that works

you should probably just send all the doctors my way 😉

  8. emily

yay for the switch! I have yet to do so, and I’m not sure if I will anytime soon! I have tried it before and it was SOOO confusing. What is better about it? I am trying to see if it is worth all of the work?

FIVE apples!? You go girl! haha

I don’t use my reader (I just go down my blogroll), but thanks for the update just in case!

    Have a great weekend!

  9. Quinn

Hey! I am in the car right now – so sorry i couldnt help with the blog needs! I actually have to switch to wordpress too. I cant stand mine right now so we will have to talk. Thanks for the bday wishes! Are you going to the NYC blog dinner June 26th? I’m in town and so excited to meet everyone!

  10. elise

yeah, i was on a MEGA pple kick yesterday!!

as for this switcheroo thingy, it is SOOO frustrating! im still debating if its worth it…the replying to comments part was the main reason i did it. but now that the google reader address doesnt work, its all for nothing since i feel like i lost all my readers! i have already had a few too many breakdowns, but now im trying to stay positive. its nice to respond to people via email, or right below their comment. otherwise, i havent found it to be that much better than blogger.

(keep in mind i am a retard in the computer department though…)

    haha.

    happy friday!

  13. Run Sarah

WordPress is so much better than blogger, I was so happy to have switched! What an awesome workout too…I need to check out these Jillian podcasts.

  14. traveleatlove

    I guess I am lucky I started on WordPress. . . I never knew anything different. . .
Are the Jillian podcasts on itunes? I have been listening to Notes in Spanish (great if you are trying to learn, and FREE!) but they aren’t great workout motivators. Good for the commute to work though. . .

  15. elise

haha, i think if you are gonna be a slut for food, apples are the way to go. btw, i just got your package and im in SHOCK! i am dancing all over the apartment! you really know how to lift a girl’s spirits, my fave clifs and dried fruit galore! i cant WAIT to upload these cds too 🙂 14 hour flight, bring it on!!!

  16. elise

you ARE lucky!! it was a pain in the a$$ to switch, but atleast its over now…and hopefully i didnt lose all my readers in the process? the jillian podcasts arent on iTunes but you can find them here:

    http://www.kfiam640.com/podcast/SUNDAY.xml

i just download them directly from that site into my music (iTunes). there are new ones every sunday and shes straight up in yo face! love it 🙂

those spanish ones sound great too! i should really be taking refreshers! when i speak to my spanish patients in the hospital its PATHETIC!!

  17. elise

you are SO right…wordpress got it right, blogger = meh.

  18. Cacti Don't Cry

Oooh wait, you can transfer archives from Blogger to WordPress? HOW?? Why did I not know this???

    Thanks for the update! 🙂

    <3 <3

  19. elise

yes!! and its surprisingly easy (its about the only part of the switch that i did correctly!) once in your wordpress dashboard theres an option import under tools (on the left handed side of the page) all you have to do is enter your blogger info and voila! done and done!

  20. snackface

Ahh! Welcome to wordpress. So I was just doing some major catching up when I came across the little factoid that you ran 7 miles in 50 minutes. You know what I do in 50 minutes? Run/Walk 4.2 miles and feel like a badass. I’m so hardcore.

Um I LOVE your appetite. I know that sounds odd, but it’s refreshing to see!

  21. elise

thanks girl! my app is a BEAST, but i luuuurve to get my run on, so im cool with it 🙂 haha, im also pretty good at reading blogs for 5 straight hours without moving – except to put another spoonful of hummus in my mouth 😉

  22. Jessica (jesslikesithot)

Elise bebeee (pronounced babe-eh)! Thank you so much for re-directing me to the new site! I would have gone panick-y in a couple days if there were no new posts on my google reader! I need to always be caught up in how you save life’s, engage in hummus conquests and work out like a crazy MOTHA!

I’m sure jillian is motivating and all, but how do you cardio it up for over an hour at a time? How do you not get EXTREMELY bored?!

And nowo, I’m ready for dinnner after this post. That mound of peanut butter, the chobani, the apples, oatmeal….loving it all!! PS-my mom and I go through apples like you do! We probably buy a good 5-7 each day or 2! What’s your fave kind? You never say….we’re fuji and gala girls!

  23. elise

Ordinarily, I would look at that workout and agree with you. Not normal! But sometimes I have these random days of crazy energy, especially days after I’ve worked (since I don’t exercise those days)…I feel like I have all this stored up boom boom pow!

Also, I try to coordinate gym visits with stuff that will keep me entertained (tv shows, mags, new music, etc.). The best is when random Top Model marathons are on (like yesterday)…and with Bravo, MTV, and VH1 all at my fingertips, the crap tv options are endless…

Another trick, which I don’t do often enough, is switching machines. The more variety, the faster the time goes by. Short intervals don’t seem so bad in the moment (I only have 10 minutes on the stair stepper, I can do that!) but when added together they make for one heck of a cardio blast!

But most days I have to draggggg myself to the gym, and (like everyone else) have to push myself through a workout, with only the knowledge that those every so lovely endorphins are RIGHT around the corner! Jillian is one tought bitch, but I prefer upbeat stuff while I’m running. I listen to her during stretching and abs/arms.

Gala for SURE!!! I occasionally go for the pink ladies, but I have to be in the mood 🙂

    Hi Elise!

Good luck with your website malfunctions!! Must be troubling to be such a massively successful blogger 😉 I love your postings and, as a hippie myself, am super jealous of the fact that in CA you must be surrounded by like minded pppl! I was born in CA but am now in the midwest and hippies are a bit rare in these parts 😉

I recently (yesterday!) started my own blog, which is primarily focused on my training for the Chicago Marathon, and my fundraising efforts for an anti-violence organization.

I was wondering if it would be ok if I listed your url on my blog as one of my favorites? Please let me know – and I would love it if you ever wanted to check it out at http://www.marathonval.blogspot.com.

Thanks and have a wonderful weekend! 🙂
    Val

  25. elise

I can’t wait to check out your site, and follow you through training and fiund raising, etc. – what a great cause, too! Where in CA are you from?

Of COURSE you can list my blog url 🙂

Thanks so much for the nice comments!
