Isn’t it ironic?

I’ve been feeling like crap since returning from Nor Cal, which I’m guessing is my body trying to tell me any number of things… 1. Please let me rest now that you’ve finished this triathlon training business. 2. Please stop feeding me crap (see below). 3. I’m sick, it happens. I’m sure there’s a bit of truth to all three of these statements, but the third one is definitely the main factor.  It’s true.  I’m sick.  Wah wah.  I hate being ill because I eat crap, ditch all forms of exercise, and feel no remorse… Read more >

Puffed crispy treats

I associate rice crispy treats with swim meets.  I remember the desserts at the snack bar were mostly home-made and the rice crispy squares were always the most appealing to me.  They were gigantic (as compared to the cookies or brownies) and still only cost 50 cents.  Such a deal! My first triathlon

I was always vaguely interested in doing a triathlon.  It was one of those things in the back of my mind that I thought sounded fun and intrigued me.  But, to be perfectly honest, I didn’t really envision it as a solo mission.  I clearly needed a push from an outside source.  A few months ago my dad forwarded me an email for a discount on a sprint triathlon.  I think the only thing he wrote in the body of the email was “are you joining me?” A few things went through my mind as… Read more >

Home is where the health is

Whenever I go home to visit my parents I’m reminded about how lucky I am to have been raised with health in the forefront.  The importance of eating well and staying active was a given, so I have never seen wellness as a chore.  Eating balanced meals and participating in sports were, quite simply, just the norm.  I now know that I was very fortunate to have grown up this way.  Thank you mom and dad!  Prior to my arrival, my mom had been to TJs to restock the bar stash.    And hummus stash….
