Never leave a man behind

Let’s start with dessert(s).  I had three times the bowl you see below.  Heavy on the candied ginger.   In case you were wondering, the Whole Foods on the westside have finally restocked their candied ginger supply, so this is their brand (as opposed to the Trader Joe’s kind that I’ve been hoarding for the past few months).  Whole Foods’ ginger is crystallized, so there is more sugar, but it’s also spicier.  I prefer the spicy kind.    Check it.  A mitten shaped piece! After I had sated my sweet tooth, I made food for… Read more >

Salvaging the silk

Remember how sad I was about the nog nuisance?  Well, if there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I’m frugal.  I like to think of it as economically responsible, but I’ll admit, I’m borderline excessively thrifty when it comes to stretching my dollar.  And it’s not just with my money, but also with my food.  I’m the girl who takes home the last bite in a doggy bag.  I freeze anything and everything if I think it’ll go bad before I can finish it.  All in the name of food preservation. Bakerella

I have no clue what that title is about.  Sorry.  I did a lot of baking today and maybe I’m high off the fumes (because vanilla and cinnamon can have that effect right?). This chef-tastic session in the kitchen may have something to do with my breakfast. Gingersnaps make excellent fuel.  And by fuel I mean sugar cravings. The problem with having a massive and delicious cookie for breakfast is it sets the bar VERY high for the rest of the day’s food.  If you’ve already had dessert nirvana by 9 am, it leaves little… Read more >

RFD hits and misses

It took me 3 hours to decide on what to order from Real Food Daily. It’s hard!  There are raw dishes that bring me to an infant-like drool state, as well as comfort meals that make me feel all warm and cozy inside.  Gah!  What to choose?? In the end I went with the BBQ tofu chop salad, with “seasonal vegetables, barbeque tofu, shredded cashew cheese, romaine, and ranch dressing”, which I bulked up with some pricey extras, including blackened tempeh and avocado. To be honest, the salad wasn’t overly thrilling.  I wasn’t expecting the… Read more >

sabadomingo

I worked this weekend which was whatever.  I don’t feel like talking about it.  I do feel like sharing my packed up eats though.    I made a pumpkin raisin chia pudding the day before, so I added some of it to my overnight oats, along with a banana.  Here’s the mix all stirred up together…   Soaking raisins plumps them up to such a delightful state! Here’s the rest of the goodies…carrots, corn nuts, granola bar, banana bread, candied ginger, salty dark chocolate. I have been storing these dried fruit and nut granola bars… Read more >
