Monthly Archive: May 2012

Let’s call it summer (giveaway)

We are deep enough into May that I’m comfortable calling it summer.  I mean, it’s basically June, which is definitely a real summer month. So yeah, I’m thinking it’s time to start celebrating the season. Who’s with me? Cocomo Joe is, that’s for sure. After trying their caramel corn, I couldn’t help ripping through the rest of the products they sent. The fig joebar and the eggnog granola were highlights for me. Yes, you read that correctly.  Eggnog granola [!!]. I wish I could spoon this stuff into each and every one of your faces. … Read more >

Philly: Veg Eats

Sweet Freedom Bakery is Philadelphia’s first (and only) allergen friendly bakery. It’s on South Street (between Broad and 15th). The sign says it all right – vegan, soy free, egg free, kosher, gluten free, peanut free, corn free, no refined sugar, casein free, wheat free…you get the point.  Basically, they have delicious baked treats for people with wacky GI systems (like me!). They were featured on the Cooking Channel’s Food(ography) and the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars.  Cool huh! So I went a little crazy. 🙂 Here’s a full list of what they offer (ps they… Read more >

Philly: Corner Bakery and Markets

I got over 10 hours of sleep but still slept in quite a bit on Saturday.  So did my parents and Kyle.  Eventually we made our way to center city for brunch.   You can’t go wrong with the Corner Bakery Cafe.   We got a bunch of things  – some to share, some to hoard.   Look at the spread.   Kyle and my dad both got the same thing – the Farmer’s Scrambler – with eggs scrambled with red and green bell peppers, red onions, mushrooms, potatoes, and cheddar cheese.  Normally it’s served… Read more >

Elise Lately [II]

A) I made a [vegan] pie from scratch.    It looks pretty and tastes even better.  And now I can cross it off my baking bucket list.  Home-made dough is really in a league of it’s own.   As you can see, Kyle was very excited when he got home to warm apple pie (get your mind out of the gutter Jason Biggs).   B) My husband is brilliant.  And now he’s going to the White House because of it. But more importantly, he did a photo shoot and video interview with make-up on.  I… Read more >

Philly: Vegan pizza

Around 4 pm, I hit a wall.  Kyle did too. One cup of coffee and one hour of sleep do not make a winning pair. Starbucks run! Kyle discovered his new favorite treat, a Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino (try saying that five times fast…or after certain red-eye conditions).  We also got my mom a Coffee Frappuccino (her first one I think?).  We are such enablers.  It was Frappuccino happy hour though, so it was a decision made purely from an economical stand point.  I [thought] I ordered a grande iced coffee with room for soy… Read more >
