Country Clubs

My parents belong to a Country Club.  You can roll your eyes.  They are still hippies…they just like golfing too.  And composting.  Anyway.  My dad’s on the Board of Directors and he’s been slowly pushing my vegan agenda. Look!  Progress!!  He asked for a veg meal and got a lima bean tofu chili.  I’m so proud. :)  To me, the Country Club scene is where preppy white people go to compare Rolex watches and Sperry Topsiders.  And eat fancy food, like oysters, filet mignon, and foie gras.  So tofu chili!?!  Now we are making big… Read more >

Breakfasts lately

For no intentional reason, I’ve broken away from oats this past week. Brown rice + bananas + blueberries + no-grain-ola + almond milk.   Not that you need a play-by-play, but here’s the deal.  I made a massive amount of brown rice (in the rice cooker), but day old rice needs a little moisture.  So I re-heated it in the microwave with almond milk.    Then I added some frozen bloobs, which quickly thawed once they met the warm rice.  Plus bananas.   And finally, I topped it off with a bunch of nutty granola…. Nerding out

So my latest hobby is going on long walks while listening to the Nerdist podcasts.  I am in love with any guests that are funny, but bonus points go to people from The Office, Mad Men, or The League (aka the best shows on tv netflix).  If they could get Tina Fey (and/or Alec Baldwin) on the show my life would be complete.  I’m a nerd. In other news.   I recently conducted my own almond milk-off between my all time fave Blue Diamond’s Almond Breeze and Silk’s (new) unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Silk previously… Read more >

Primo Passion Project

Primo Passo Coffee Co. opened in March and in spite of it’s location (across the street from Starbucks and a few blocks away from Caffe Luxxe), it seems to be doing pretty well. Kyle has been twice, but yesterday was my first visit.  I don’t frequent Montana Ave as often now that we’ve moved.  Not that we are that much further away now, but it was nice to see our old ‘hood again.  PPC co is on Montana and 7th.   The interior felt minimalist and modern.  Like they just want you to focus on… Read more >

The return flight

Not having my ID turned out to be way more of an issue on the return flight.  DCA’s security is definitely more on top of it, as compared to LAX’s nonchalant approach to check-in.  On the cab ride to the airport, Kyle’s mom and I decided we wouldn’t bother lying.  If they asked me how old I was, I’d just be honest and then we’d go through the appropriate (read: legal) channels to get clearance to fly without an ID card.  I don’t know what came over me, though, because that whole plan went out… Read more >
