Weeks 27 – 33

Well, I’m (hopefully) a solid 6 weeks from “the big day”. But who knows… I can say with 100% certainty that the end of the second trimester brought the end of the honeymoon phase of pregnancy. Out with the nice little bump, in with the belly! And the rest of the not-so-fun symptoms – like acid reflux, insomnia, and cramping. Ok, my belly isn’t really that big yet. I’m hardly waddling. But my body has changed big time. Exercise pretty much stopped around week 27. This was partially due to the fact that I was… Read more >

Tips for road trips

I’ve done drive after drive after drive up and down the I-5.  I’ve been doing it for my entire life.  At least ten times every year.  That’s a LOT of time in the car. Packing for hours on the road is actually fairly similar to packing for work (another one of my areas of expertise). So I figured I’d pass on my tips for travel. Content and/or other value provided by our partner, Kia Motors 1. Pack more than you think you’ll need. I don’t care if my trip is only supposed to take 3… Read more >

Readers request: My Go-To Dinners (Five Fast Meals)

Some of these may seem lame or boring, but when you want a semi-home-made (healthy) meal lickety split, you can’t be too picky.  While I mostly prep for the week in advance, I do leave some days open.  These "wing it" dinners are typically made from either leftovers (revamped to be something else) or various ingredients I know I have ready in the fridge.  As I’ve shared before, I keep certain staples on hand at all times for exactly these scenarios. 1. Stir fry 2. Pasta with veggies 3. Veggie burger 4. Hippie bowl 5…. Read more >

A non chocolate dessert

Pear + tree.  No partridge.   I made this dessert for Kyle and his response (lots of moaning) was so shocking, it was as if I gave him a bowl of Reese’s cups and said “dig in”!  Fruit based desserts are so outside his normal.  His cravings are very simple: (1) chocolate, (2) peanut butter, or (3) chocolate with peanut butter.  Sweet Buttered Pears with Cocoa Ingredients: 1 pear 2 tbsp butter (Earth Balance) 2 tbsp sugar pinch of cinnamon (optional) pinch cocoa powder (topping) Directions: Chop or slice pear.  Heat butter in a… Read more >

Overly FODMAPs heavy

You know what my LEAST favorite part about blogging is?  Thinking of post titles.  Seriously, I am depleted.  After 4+ or whatever years it seems like there’s nothing left.  So I always wait ‘til the end and then I sit there, waiting to hit publish, while I stare at “enter a post title” on the top of the page.  Most of the time I go one of two routes – either super cheesy (like really lame puns) or super boring (like the name of a recipe).  It’s a miracle if it’s remotely clever.  But hopefully… Read more >
