Market meals

Last weekend I promised to share our vegan BBQ menu and then I got so busy with Disneyland, work, and my trip home I completely forgot about it.  We didn’t actually determine what we were having for dinner until we got to the Farmer’s Market.  So the menu was based entirely on what was fresh that day.  Let’s start with the green beans.    After washing them and cutting off the ends, I steamed them until they were nice and soft. Then I let them cool in an ice bath.  They stayed in the cold… Read more >

That’s a lotta brown

Dude.  I can’t even begin to describe the past 18 hours.  I had a really rough day.  I was going a mile a minute from the second my shift started…and the first time I looked at the clock I was shocked.  Already 11:20!?!  Uhhhh…what!?  How could this be?  Because my job is time dependent (meds, blood draws, etc. all require a strict schedule) it’s rare that I’m not aware of the time.  Today, however, I never had a moment of rest.  Not even a millisecond.  I was definitely behind for most of the day…perpetually trying… Read more >

Interview with a vegan

If you are wondering what a type A person looks like before a job interview, here you go: Prepping slash watching the seconds on the clock tick by.  SO nervous.  Keep your digits (all of ‘em) crossed for me.  After an hour of selling myself offering to give up my first born child for the job, I noshed on a colorful bowl of strawberries and apples.  It was still gloomy weather when noon arrived, so I felt like a warm comfort sammie.  Tempeh fakin’ bacon.  I bought this on a whim (and because it was… Read more >

Visiting the vines

I’ve been meaning to introduce you all to the vineyard for quite some time now…but I, myself, hadn’t been to Healdsburg in a while. Fortunate for you, my Grandpa was kind enough to remind me that I was long overdue for a visit.  And fortunate for me, I remembered to bring along my camera.  Hello Zinfandel. Kyle and I left bright and early to arrive in Dry Creek Valley just as the clouds were clearing out.  It may be summer, but Sonoma mornings are still a tad overcast with AM fog.  In case you are… Read more >

Thrive

I’m going with a minimalist approach.  Inspired by the farm fresh produce of the area, the day centered around fruit.  Four courses of it to be exact. Pluots + pink ladies Ditto + raspberries Apple count thus far…four. Make that five. Eventually I moved away from the fruit.  But I didn’t stray too far.  Produce how I love thee. Celery + carrots + avocado + leftovers (that I never posted on). Half an avocado can make dirt taste good. As you can see much of my recent eats (and musings) have been inspired by my… Read more >
