Roland Garros

After the luck we were struck down with on the RER commute to Versailles, our trust in Paris’ train system wasn’t great.  And since Laura would rather self-amputate her defective toes than miss part of a tennis match, we were out of the gate excessively early.  I think Wozniaki herself slept in longer than we did. Once caffeine and carbs were had, we were off to Roland Garros. Weee! Having been to the US Open before, I knew tennis fever was going to hit me the second we stepped into the stadium.  [Who am I… Read more >

Expo Explosion

Imagine a Whole Foods the size of 15 football fields…now imagine browsing it’s aisles for two days straight…now imagine representatives from every product giving your samples of their latest and greatest to try (for free!)…and THAT, my friends, is EXPO WEST. In other words, hippie heaven. Friday started bright and early as Kyle and I made our way to Anaheim to register and all that jazz.  And before we knew it, the doors pearly gates opened and BAM! Instantly we were slammed with people pushing samples at us…nibbles and bites of savory, creamy, sweet, smooth,… Read more >

You put the pear in the coconut

Is it just me, or does my coffee froth look like a person running? I could be going crazy.  It’s entirely possible.  It’s actually the more likely scenario.  Still, I couldn’t help but feel like my morning coffee was sending me subliminal messages.  I ignored them and went for a bike ride instead.  It was AWESOME.  Before hitting the road, I had a bowl of oats with a chopped apple.  Don’t be deceived by the above photo, though.  This batch of oats was anything but average. I bulked up the 1/2 cup rolled oats with… Read more >

The Eves Before the Eve

Happy 2011 everyone!  I know I promised the giveaway winners today, but I’m not quite ready yet… Since I’ve been MIA for the past few days, I have some catching up to do first.  Even though I got the 31st and 1st off of work, I was still at the hospital for the rest of 2010.  And so before ringing in the New Year, I packed up my lunches as per usual. The above is what I call operation use-up-leftovers.  Chopped NutsOnline dried figs + golden delicious apples + quinoa seasoned with stevia and cinnamon… Read more >

(not) Sunset’s fruit and nut bars

My parents went to the Cal vs. Kansas basketball game the other night, so I was home alone with my sis and Kyle.  Bored, but too tired to do anything that involved changing out of PJs, I randomly decided to bake.  My mom always has tons of magazines on hand, including my faves, Bon Appetite and Sunset. I raided the cabinets and pantry… Not too shabby.   My parents didn’t have medjool dates…or dried apples…and not very much honey…soooo, yeah, I made quite a few changes to the recipe I was using.  Given that the ingredients… Read more >
