millet

Just a Wednesday

You must be sick of non-food (aka house progress) posts by now, huh? Ok, how about my work food for a change of pace (slash return to the real reason I blog). Breakfast…   Oats, puffed millet, white chia seeds and sunflower seed butter on top. You want me to back up with that?   1 cup whole rolled oats + 1 1/2 cups boiling water + 1/4 cup puffed millet + 1 tbsp chia seeds   Once I let them sit a bit, the water got soaked up and the chia seeds gelled, so… Read more >

Millet meals

This week’s grain was millet. It’s small, gluten free, and has a cornbread like taste. I make it in the rice cooker, like I do with everything else, using the same water to grain ratio as rice, quinoa, and couscous.  Honestly, it’s impossible to mess things up in a rice cooker. This one just so happened to be especially on the money…because when I went to scoop it into a tupperware it came out as easy as could be, no spoon required.  Literally. This is from flipping the bowl upside down.  I actually attempted to… Read more >

It’s true what they say

“Home is where the heart is” Yup.  It’s true.  Lucky for me, I consider both the Bay Area AND Santa Monica “home.”  So even though it was a total joy to spend the weekend with my parents and sister, I’m glad to be back with Kyle.  Win win.  Eventually I will recap the wedding in more detail (so fun!), but for now, I’m trying to get organized for work tomorrow (reality check…wah wah). I had leftovers from Patxi’s for Saturday brunch.  I had baby carrots a la mode because I enjoy fiber.   Even day… Read more >

Camera purge

If there were any title more appropriate, I’d go with it, but this is really just a bunch of pics that have accumulated…and if they help give you ideas on healthy FODMAPS options, great.  If not, sorry for this post’s random nature.   Two recent recipes inspired this meal: Jenna’s veggie fried rice and Evan’s fried quinoa.  I make quinoa in bulk at the beginning of every week.  Without fail.  Some weeks I make two batches because I go through it so quickly.  I use my rice cooker, so it’s a completely mindless activity…as second… Read more >

Millecado and lollihop

I’m really obsessed with millet bread right now, which is a shame since it costs $6 a loaf. The best way to enjoy it is with avocado smashed on top. You really don’t need anything else, but if you’re feeling extra sassy, you can jazz it up with a squeeze of lime juice, dash of salt and paprika. As far as I’m concerned mille-cado is the next PB&J.  It’s a heavenly snack. For the people following the low FODMAPS plan, avocado does have trace amounts (it’s in the polyols category with stone fruits), but sources differ… Read more >
