Brown rice no-tillas

Do not be deceived by the beauty of this plate.  The tortillas may as well have been scrambled up with the tofu for all the good they did as a vehicle for the stuffing.  Needless to say, this was a fork and knife meal.  This was one of my first forays in the world of no wheat.  I’m not too impressed.    Quality ingredients and nutritional stats aside, they were similar to (a thinner) cardboard in texture.  The slightest bend and they cracked like a stale wafer.  Interestingly enough, they were packaged between individual… Read more >

By the seat of my pants

While I enjoy others cooking for me, I also like making my own food because I want my meals a very specific way am a control freak change my mind multiple times while cooking. Stove-top oats are a prime example.  More often than not, I have no clue where my bowl of oatmeal is heading when I start boiling water.  Yesterday morning I wasn’t in the mood for anything too sweet, so I decided to make (plain) Greek yogurt my breakfast’s main ingredient.  Sometimes tangy trumps sweet.  After adding the yog to a bowl, I… Read more >

‘Fus and don’ts

I will never tire of puns.  Ever.  As long as I’m the one saying them, that is.  I don’t have the same policy when it comes to my dad’s or Kyle’s.  Last month I made baked BBQ tofu and promised you all the recipe.  Then I ate it all, took no photos, and realized I suck.  Blogger fail.   No worries, I made it again.  And it was just as good this time.  Here’s what I used: 1/2 block pressed tofu (I used the other half for I don’t remember what) 3 tbsp. of BBQ… Read more >

Winter in March

In November I was bragging about how great the 80 degree weather was.  And then in January I was happily soaking up the sun’s rays on the beach.  And now it’s March and the weather is cold and dreary!?  What gives? Since it’s LA, I know it won’t last too long, but I have to say, these stormy skies and rain clouds aren’t fun at all. Breakfast came really late on Saturday.  After saying goodbye to my sis (until we reunite in Europe in May), Kyle and I drove back to Santa Monica so I… Read more >

Restaurant wars

The past week has been pretty restaurant heavy.  It makes sense since our fridge currently has more condiments than anything else.  After returning from Vegas, we stopped at the Culver City location of Tender Greens for some very necessary clean and organic meals.  It was pouring rain and we had no umbrellas, so we decided take-away was the best option.  After showering and unpacking, I dug into my “Happy Vegan” salad.  For optimal photography, I removed the toast and greens that were resting atop the other parts of the salad and put them on a… Read more >
