Our last week in LA

Highlights only.  I could never recap an entire week! Footed PJs are the cutest thing ever. Saturday morning we had an open house.  Rather than subject P to a million people germing up the joint, I took him for a walk.  We went to the Farmer’s Market to re-stock on spinach (this habit requires a constant influx of greens). After everyone left I came home and got ready for a BBQ with friends.  We picked up some apps on the walk over (oh how I will miss these easy walks to friends houses in Santa… Read more >

Birth Story [part III – discharge]

[Cont from part I and part II] A Valentine’s Day to remember P arrived in his new room right as we got there.  What we then came to discover was his “room” was really just a cube with a crib in it.  Worse still, was that Kyle and I were planning on staying the night.  We had one recliner chair.  And a borrowed rolling office chair from the nurse’s station. Try learning to latch and breast feed in that environment!  All the lactation consultants in the world couldn’t make this situation work. So once again… Read more >

The newest trend

I have the coolest friends.  Ever since we started budgeting my besties have been awesome about making dinners together (as opposed to expensive meals out).  Last Friday we made vegan tortilla soup with Ethel. And this past Friday Alene came over with some groceries for this feast…   We started out with appetizers.  Alene fell prey to the delightfulness of Whole Foods and impulse bought some chips, guacamole, and pico de gallo.   Obviously I didn’t partake in the vino. It was kinda drizzly weather outside but Kyle still manned the BBQ.   Tofurky kielbasa… Read more >

Old to new

You all know I’m frugal.  And that I like re-working leftovers.  This is not news. So when Alene & Ethel sent me home with extras from the shower, I was really excited to transform them into new dishes not have to cook for a while. Orzo salad with sun dried tomatoes. Quinoa with edamame, kale, and tomatoes. Both of these dishes made their way into the weekly dinner plan immediately. Since the orzo salad had an Italian/Mediterranean flavor profile going on already, I just added to it.   Cubed some (drained, uncooked, firm) organic tofu… Read more >

For our baby boy

On Saturday, December 8th, Kyle and I were joined by some of our best friends to celebrate our little bundle of joy. In just 8 weeks, he will be here…unless some of our friends’ guesses are correct… His due date is 2/7/13, but I’m a numbers freak, so I’m hoping it’s a multiple of 5.  Unless it’s the 15th.  I have a gut feeling about January 30th, but who knows.  I bet a dollar on it though.  🙂 Our friends also tried to guess his length & weight, as well as his name. I can… Read more >
