Fromage & fourchette (or how to make the French hate you)

After our picnic by the Eiffel Tower, we geared up for a post-lunch workout.  And by that I mean a session on France’s most scenic stairmaster.  The line to walk is way shorter than the line to go up by lift, plus, the stairs weren’t all that bad!  We learned interesting facts at each level, a new addition to the climb, which Laura and I appreciated since I accidentally grabbed the informational brochure in Greek/Italian. Seriously, I couldn’t have picked a worse one to try and decipher.  I told Laura it was practice for the… Read more >

“not very good”

I gave France multiple chances.  One, two, three seven strikes you’re out… I wanted very much to prove that you can in fact be a vegan in a country that celebrates meat and cheese.  And maybe it’s easier if you speak the language, or aren’t in touristy places, but knowing how to say "sans fromage" and "je suis vegetarienne" didn’t seem to help much.  Even smiling and saying in my sweetest, non-American accent "je voudrais une salade" wasn’t working out that well for me (how many boring salads can a girl eat!*).  But trying to… Read more >

Luxxe Friday

This week has been truly perfect.  Much needed after last week’s sh!t storm of crazy.  Friday couldn’t have been a more amazing end to the week either. Kyle has Fridays off, so we both got to sleep in.  Brilliant start already.  Then we found out his waffle company made it to the finals – open to the public (on May 26th) if you want to attend.  Winner gets investors and money and a bunch of press, so this is HUGE.  While Kyle had a quick conference call I went on a short run (showered); and… Read more >

Nothing comes close to the golden coast

Had a pretty legit weekend.  As if Santa Monica beach time wasn’t fun enough, Kyle and I headed off to Palos Verdes and then San Clemente… It all started with le beurre de cacahuetes (aka the butter of nuts).  Add a duo of WF multi-grain bread slices…   And some strawberry jammin’… And it’s a PB&J par-tay.  Nothing fancy, but simplicity is often underrated (that’s kinda my roundabout way of saying being on a budget can lead to boring repetitive meal choices). Lunch was quick and snackalicious.  WF’s traditional hummus and a soft pretzel (that… Read more >

Shout out to the ones I love

If Pigpen and Courtney Love shared a teeny tiny living space, I’d imagine it would still look more organized than our apartment.  Moving isn’t fun.  There’s chaos everywhere.  Given that, I believe I deserve mayj props for busting out a semi respectable breakfast. Berry carob pancakes 1 1/2 cup brown rice flour 2 tsp NuNaturals stevia 2 tsp baking powder 1/2 cup frozen (and then thawed) berries 1/4 cup carob chips 1 shake Marx Foods salt 1 cup Silk vanilla soymilk I gobbled them up hot off the press…much like the Cosmo, Bride, and InStyle… Read more >
