I love rolls

I’ve eaten at Wokcano before, so there weren’t any surprises with this order.  Just yummy sushi.  Avocado and seaweed salad are two of my favorite things in the world. Roooooolls!!    It’s hard to play favorites, but this was it.   Wokcano still doesn’t have brown rice.  LAME!  Here’s a fun April prompt (#HAWMC) I felt like sharing… 10 things I couldn’t live without (I decided to choose foods): quinoa hummus seitan bread ginger coffee oatmeal Bragg’s liquid aminos avocado carrots What’s on your list?

Pure Market Express

At Expo West, I came across a company I’d never heard of before called Pure Market Express.  They were super friendly and offered me samples of raw vegan chocolate truffle pie in a little shot glass.  How could I not fall in love immediately? I know.  It seems too good to be true.  But I swear, it’s not a hologram.  That beauty is the real deal.   I enjoyed the shooter and went on my way, dreaming of the day I’d recreate something similar in my own kitchen.  A week or so later I got… Read more >

Notes by Kyle

Kyle was just as sample savvy as I was at ExpoWest.  He promised to do reviews as he ate them, but I thought he was joking…   Then I got an email from him (with photos!) and descriptions and realized he was serious.  Here are his notes, copied verbatim from his emails to me. If you like Italian food (particularly lasagna) and you’re looking for a shortcut.  This is it. Vegan and gluten free deliciousness is minutes away.  [Ok, that’s a slight exaggeration, there’s definitely 30 minutes of oven time to factor in] What you need: marinara sauce vegan cream cheese (I used Follow Your Heart brand) rice paper (Asian markets will have them for half the cost of conventional grocers) tempeh (I used LightLife flax) What you do: Layer.  For the rice paper, hold it under running water for a few seconds so it starts to soften.  Once… Read more >

Banana bread bookends

First thing I did when I got up was inhale deeply. Even though our bedroom is upstairs, the aromas from the kitchen still make their way up to us overnight.  Especially when I make bread right before bedtime. I took a few slices of each for breakfast (and general morning snacking). Excellent. I don’t have photos of all my work food.  I brought pizza and other stuff. The dough was soooo good.  Fluffy and soft. The sauce had too much garlic.  FODMAPs fail. The cheese was melty.  Really and truly.  It melted. If you see… Read more >
