Hello again old friend

After night shift, I biked home Thursday morning and passed the [bleep] out. When I woke up I semi-freaked out because I realized my packing time (before leaving for New York) was minimal.  And still, my priority was food. I had quinoa with vanilla soy yogurt, cinnamon and bananas. Then I showered, threw clothes in a suitcase, and we were off to the bus stop.  I am slightly nervous about how haphazardly I packed…but we’re staying at Jess’ apartment (she’s out of town) so having her closet at my disposal is my backup.  And by… Read more >

Prop 65

After I gave up fake sugar, my coffee consumption took a hit.  And subsequently, the frequency that I sought out the siren.  I think my Starbucks gold card membership is in jeopardy.  But for any of you who have been to the ‘bucks lately, you may have noticed this at the milk/sugar bar. Animal free Vitamin C

I love Emergen-C drink powders, especially the Pink (breast cancer) flavor, but some of the ingredients leave me scratching my head.  Since I’m trying to be much more vigilant about labels, I figured there’s no better source than the people who make the product.  Ask and you shall receive.  To clear up the confusion, here’s info directly from the company. Boxes manufactured prior to March 2009 contain glucosamine which is shellfish-derived. Emergen-C Pink®… Read more >

Vampire hours

My second night shift was as uneventful as my first (just the way I like it).  I did feel like a vampire though, not just because I was awake all night, but because I was constantly waking my patients up to suck draw their blood.  I try to cluster my care so they get as much rest as possible, but when multiple labs are required throughout the shift, it makes it hard (on them and me).  Ah well, what can ya do?  There’s little that makes me happier than troponins trending down.  Ok, that’s not… Read more >

Nighty night

Soooo, I’m back on night shifts for the week.  🙁 In an effort to get my sleep schedule as off whack as possible, I stayed up ‘til 1 am on Monday night and slept in ‘til 9 am on Tuesday. I had big plans to watch the US Open all day long, but the NYC weather didn’t get the memo. Instead I had tea with almond milk and continued my Ally McBeal marathon.  Livin’ large guys. Breakfast: quinoa with strawberries, bananas, cinnamon and peanut butter Since starting out on the low FODMAPS journey, I’ve been… Read more >
