Run Fat Boy Run

I sat on the couch all day today.  I did NO exercise, and worse yet, I barely moved my butt even within my own apartment.  In fact, the only reason I ditched my PJs and left my 600 square foot haven was to pick up my freshly pressed dress for this weekend.  But, the dry cleaners is less than 3 blocks from the apartment, so I expended less than 5 calories (and even that is being generous).  Meh.

I’m not pleased with my fitness-less day, but at the same time, I don’t really care.  I mean, I was seriously lacking the will to work out, which is a crucial component, dontcha think?  I’ll get over it…  Plus, I worked the past few days, so I needed wanted to relax.

How simple would life be if we always did JUST what we wanted, and never worried about anything else.  Obligations be damned (consequence, what’s that?). What would you do?  I’d eat, sleep, and blog.  I’d run when I wanted, enter races for fun, and spend all day zoning out to trashy tv the rest of the time.  Work?  Nope.

BUT.  Since the homeless lifestyle isn’t my scene, I’m gonna continue to balance work with the rest of my daily activities.

After my breakfast (above) of WF’s bulk bin vanilla almond crunch granola (BEST granola EVER!!) and coffee, I practiced makeup for Sunday using the latest tips from my girl.  No luck.  I suck at applying eye shadow.  I removed it all and decided to do my nails instead.  But first, some fruit.  Fresh AND dried.

Success.

Salad by Clean Food

IMG_4475IMG_4478

Strawberry balsamic bliss (for the record, that’s not the title of the actual recipe)…but if Terry wants a partner in cookbook writing, I’m avail!

I loved each and every bite of this salad, the balsamic dressing is so good!  Oh, yeah, dessert happened, too.  I had the rest of my stash of carob energy chunks, but then had what I really wanted (is that the theme of today or what) which was a TON of apples.  I’m not a horse.  Don’t judge me.

IMG_4614IMG_4604

I was such a sloth, I have nothing interesting to report on the rest of the day.  When dinner rolled around, I wasn’t even that hungry, but that didn’t make too much of a difference…I wanted carbs and I wanted them bad.  Fortunately, I had enough in the fridge to tide me over.

Whole Foods’ naan came to the rescue and talked my carb-craving self back from the ledge.  Sometimes I find myself in such life or death situations…and ordinary bread just won’t do.  Nope, I needed to pull out the big guns.

IMG_4588

Carbs up the yin-yang.

IMG_4587IMG_4586

In addition to the pieces of naan, I had a big bowl of brown rice with edamame, carrots, and a side salad with the same.

Dessert was more of a second dinner, but what’s in a name?  This was my first Nature’s Pride taste test and yummmmm.  It’s been a while since I had bread that wasn’t live sprouted, and I forgot how soft normal bread was.  These slices of whole wheat were nice and doughy.

IMG_4670IMG_4672

I toasted them, lathered each side with PB, sprinkled on some carob chips, and dug in.

IMG_4673

I’m not sure which was more amazing…the bread or the oozing swirls of peanut buttery carob.  Either way, I was in heaven.  I savored each bite while Kyle and I watched Run Fat Boy Run (talk about rubbing it in my face).  Kidding!

Today’s vegan celebrities: my fave couple Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi

And most important of all, Happy Birthday to my future-mother-in-law Beverly!!!

Your eats today sound divine, and I am with you–I would LOVE to do only what I wanted when I wanted without any consequences–who wouldn’t?! Work?! What is that? Sigh…maybe someday when I become a rich and famous public health nutritionist. Wait–what?! There is no such thing as a famous rich public health nutritionist?! Now ya tell me.. 🙂

Okay, so I totally know who Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi are, but seriously…WHO the hell is Stev-O?! Now I am actually kinda curious…(even though it probably makes me sound even MORE ignorant and stupid, if that is even possible)…

  2. Niamh

I feel dumb because I never knew ellen DeGeneres was a vegan….
I’m just wondering, do you have your cereal/granola dry? x

  3. The Foodie Diaries

I legit LOLed throughout this whole thang. And you just described my Saturday. I have. not. moved. at all.

That WF granola is off the heeez. I swear anything that comes from the bins tastes infinitely more delicious than the boxed stuff.

  4. brianna

Exercise, shmexercise we all need to relax every once in a while. PB and carob chip mess sign me uppp!

  5. Graze With Me

Pb, carob chip sandwich sounds/looks incredible! What a great idea…

Nothing wrong with being a bit of a sloth…that’s what a day off is for sometimes. Enjoy your Saturday!

  6. jocelyneatsfresh

pffftt.. there are days I go without workin out. I know its bad but I feel the same way. If I’m not motivated then I know it’s gonna be a bad workout. I’d rather just wanna do it and put 100 percent into it.
Anyways. Your eats look amazing. Yummy pb and carob.

  7. Jenny

true story: my day is strikingly similar to yours – minus getting dressed and leaving my house.. aka, I’m still rockin’ my PJs and the most exercise I’ve gotten is a steady arm workout stirring up a new jar of PB (which was intense, may I add) whatevs — we all our days! And trust me girl.. you are a helluva a lot more active than most .. so you are WELL deserving of at least one lazy day per week 🙂 enjoy it while you can!

  8. Erica

Sometimes it is so nice to have a fitness-less day! I am planning on one tomorrow- my body needs a break! Lots of great eats- totally jealous of your dried papaya spears

  9. Jessica

Looks like you need to be a part of Chocolate Covered Katie’s Hug-a-Carb Month:

    http://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/2009/10/02/grain-goodness/

    That pb bread looks amaze!

  10. Amy

Aw Elise…don’t feel too bad about just relaxing all day. I definitely understand how shitty it can make you feel, but you work SO SO SO freakin hard the whole week. No worries girl!

I love naan bread…haven’t had it in so long! Beautiful din 😀

  11. Ada

Woah girl, that peanut butter/carob combo looks delicious! Sometimes it’s nice to just have relaxing days without exercise, I make it a point to have at least one per week;)

Yay for the UWS Whole Foods, I am SO glad it opened!!! I was just there today and seriously stocked up on goodies.

  12. Katie

I would probably lay in bed watching marathon after marathon of old TV dramas. I would eat bread and cinnamon rolls and cookies the entire time…

Also – why have I never put chocolate chips (or carob chips in your case..) in my pb sandwich!? Genius.

  13. Peanut Butter Bliss

can I just say I am drooling over that pb/carob sammie! yes I think that sounds just short of out of this world 😀

I say a good day on the couch is just what every girl needs once in a while. Plus, you eat super healthy and are active otherwise 🙂

  14. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga)

The bread w/ chips and PB? OMG that looks so good. I can’t even eat bread my friend, sprouted or not. I am GF and most breads that are GF are related to cardboard and also very expensive so rather than waste money on cardboard, I go without. My daughter is working her way thru the 2 free loaves we got…a half piece at a time for her 2.5 yr old tummy.

Sloth-like? You? Hardly. But yes, it would be nice to only do what we want when we want. Today would have been my day to sleep til noon, not done one damn thing, but having said 2.5 yr old precludes me from any such fantasy 🙂

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve-O

that should help…haha. he was on MTV a lot doing random stunts with johnny knoxville. remember that jackass show? i dunno. i believe i saw him staple his ass (most likely while on some kind of mind altering drugs?)…either way its bizarre that he is vegan.

at least you know who ellen is!!

  16. broccolihut

That dessert looks SO delicious. How have I never had a PB chocolate chips sandwich?!

  17. keri410

please come make me that sandwich!

  18. Ellen (Peace in Motion)

I had pretty much the same day, except mine ended with the most unhealthy meal EVER from the cafe at school. Sundays they only do buffet style, so my choices were meat (which I don’t eat), super unhealthy cheesy ravioli, or lo mein. Let’s just say I now have motivation for the gym tomorrow haha. Sometimes a day off will do so much for the motivation!

BOSSY sandwich. I love when dessert turns into meal #2 🙂

  19. julie

okay first I read your last post and uh haha I’m ashamed to say that I did the starbucks challenge way to many times this weekend. Me and Deej went “Starbucks hopping” this weekend while we were away. I played kiss ass so I could capitalize my way through the free samps and coups. I’m happy to say that I kiss assed my way to 6 free samples and 12 free coffee coupons. haha fail. BTW their columbian is a-may-zing.

haha anyways enough about me. Umm your PB&Carob sammie looks like something that would be served at some awesomely amazing restaurant. I’m thinking you should make a cookbook. I’d buy it and I’m not even vegan

speaking of celeb vegans…I’m 98% sure that Bob Harper is a vegan!

it’s sunday man 🙂 feel happy

  20. ksgoodeats

I’m a firm believer that you shouldn’t FORCE yourself to work out so I’m happy to hear you has a lazy, daisy day! If I could do anything I wanted, I’d shop, eat lots of Greek food, and travel!

Mmmmm carbs, nut butter, and carob – that’s ALMOST better than hummus. Almost.

  21. Megan

Ugh I’m definitely a huge believer of taking a day off.. where you absolutely do nothing! I wish I had days where I could just lounge around all day :/. And mmm carbs… I crave them 24/7!

  22. Courtney

Okay, gross. I am no longer embarrassed for not knowing who he is…I don’t think I want to know now that I know, lol! I can honestly say I never willingly watched Jackass, and I have never seen an entire episode, and if that makes me uncool, then I am proud of it! Oh well–thank you for my popular popular culture education 🙂 ! See? Reading blogs can be educational!

    Courtney

  23. glidingcalm

Oh Elise!! You were so long and so hard during the week, you totally deserve a day to just veg!! I think it is awesome that you listened to your body!!

And ya, naan pretty much beats any type of bread in my book. Esp. if it is doughy and soft and served with some good a$$ curry!

your dinner dessert looks so amazing!!

I hope you have a lovely Sunday!!!!!!!
    Much love Mama,
    GC

  24. lilveggiepatch

I’m with GC… you work such grueling hours all week, and deserve to sloth it up as much as you want.

Ari hates Ellen DeGeneres for some reason. I had no idea they were vegan!

  25. Shelby

I haven’t been working out much lately either. I don’t feel bad about it…whatevs.

OMG I need that sammich! YUM!

  26. blueeyedheart

Nothing wrong with vegging out… especially after working such crazy hours!!

If I could ditch all responsibilities, I’d probably divide my time between water and land… spend 50% diving, and the other 50% in bed, alternately sleeping and reading. I am so exciting. :p

    <3 <3

  27. Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca)

Haha, I totally think about that everyday – what I would do if I could do anything I wanted and not worry about money etc. I would eat, sleep, read, blog, run/ exercise, and cook. That’s it.

  28. Diana (Soap & Chocolate)

I didn’t know my favorite gayelles were vegan! More power to ’em!

So here’s a plan: let’s both make millions from our blogs, retire early (next month?), and put your do-what-we-want plan into effect. Sounds good to me.

  29. ethel

Heard about that movie a while back, but never got the chance to watch it. Did you and Kile enjoy it?

p.s. deliciousness on the dessert and like always, your blog makes me smile and I feel like I just talked to you. Thanks E! I needed that today.

  30. Courtney

  31. elise

  32. elise

i don’t. at first i was gonna snack on this dry, and then i realized it wasn’t working, so i added milk after. sometimes the pics are better pre-milk though, dontcha think?

btw, i think portia was vegan and then ellen got on board after they got together.

  33. elise

i couldnt agree more. bulk bins are my other fiancé.

  34. elise

  44. Lara (Thinspired)

“Homelessness isn’t my scene…” You crack me up. Yeah, me neither. But doing what I ACTUALLY want to do all day is a lovely thought! I see a lot of reality TV involved, and lots of carbs 😉 Yilkes.

  45. elise

    agreed.
