24 episodes

How did I not know until just now that my idol, Jillian Michaels, has a free podcast on iTunes!?!  I’m 24 episodes behind, which means I have enough listening material for the drive to Nor Cal tomorrow (and back on Monday).  Score!  I was heartbroken (no, seriously, I was) when XM radio discontinued Jillian’s last radio show, so imagine my excitement when I discovered she’s back!  And this time on iTunes!  There’s nothing more motivating than listening to Jillian speak about fitness and nutrition.  Weee!  I’ve never looked forward to the I-5 like this.  Ever. … Read more >

Presents from patients

Since I am working all day shifts this month (hooray!) I have been doing my usual 4 am rise-and-shine before work.  Taking Jillian on at the crack of dawn may seem crazy to most people, but I feel like a bada$$ when I’m done.  So worth it.  Since I did level 3 of The Shred the previous day, I decided to switch it up on Wednesday.   I buy fitness magazines from time to time (they are my rare grocery store check-out treats), but I never do the workouts inside.  Not that I’m an expert… Read more >

Carmageddon

First things first, I made coconut blueberry scones yesterday, and I am really pleased with the outcome.  The recipe will be up soon.  Here’s a teaser…   I had three over the course of the afternoon, very much spoiling my appetite for dinner.  They are friggin’ delicious.  Anyway.  I had one before work (breakfast #1).  And then I brought these goods for the rest of the day. Breakfast #2 – oats with silken tofu, raisins, and NuNaturals’  vanilla stevia. Lunch – salad with mixed greens, shredded zucchini, carrots, red quinoa, kelp noodles, and seitan. Snacks… Read more >

Unpackaged

Finally!  A bit of a break from the hospital.  The past few days have been busy busy because I’m out of town this weekend which means all my shifts got crammed into the beginning of the week.  What that means for you all is this post will be full of several pre-packed work meals.   L to R: Bread, Salad, Dried Fruit & Nut Bar   The bread was a fresh french roll from WF bakery.  It had a ménage à trois with hummus and carrots later in the day.  Sexy.  The salad was a… Read more >

Can’taloupe

A few fruits, like grapes and melon, give me reflux trouble.  It’s not that I can’t eat them, it’s just that I have to eat them alone, stay upright afterwards, and not exercise.  Cantaloupe is one of the main culprits, but I think I found a way to work around it.  Blender! Ignore the color, this was awesome.    It was also crazy healthy – packed with vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats! See that green powder?  That’s the latest item to join the hippie kitchen.    Um.  Whoa.  What I like about this Antioxidant Omega-3… Read more >
